Warhammer 40K: Space Marine

...Daymn.

Anyway, from the looks of it, it seems to be in the vein of Gears of War, or maybe even Devil May Cry. I'm trying to find out more about it right now, but I do know it's done by the same guys who did the Dawn of War games.

krogothwolf 07-28-2009 09:57 AM

It looks like it could be great fun. I always look forward to GW computer games. I'm thinking its more of a cross between GoW and DMC and might depend on what type of Space Marine your using.

What I really want is a Turn-Based GW game in fantasy battles or a game in the vien of Shadow of the Horned Rat. March of Chaos was alright but not great.

Masaki-kun 07-28-2009 02:00 PM

Looks fun, though I do wonder why all those boyz look so squishy. Like, flying through the air from one marine swatting them...

Lost in Time 07-28-2009 03:41 PM

Is this the same game that called it's gameplay "Cine-action"? Either way, when it comes out, I'd play it.

Flarecobra 07-28-2009 04:20 PM

Don't know anything about that, and let's face it, if you got hit with a giant hammer by someone who can bench-press a small car for fun while in his armor...you'd go flying.

Masaki-kun 07-28-2009 04:45 PM

Eh, when you've got a problem like that, you need mo' boyz and mo' dakka. No exceptions! Shame on that warboss if 'e can't lead a decent WAUUUUUGH!

Looks interesting, and I do like how they're capitalizing on the heroism of Space Marines rather than the fascism, similar to how Dawn of War 1 and 2 did. I do have to question how much 'scinemaction' comes into play, and god willing I won't have to mash any action buttons anytime soon.

Toastburner B 07-29-2009 01:53 AM

I'm hoping they scrape the 'scinemaction' thing altogether. I remember watching that video a few months ago and not being very impressed by it at all.

This trailer, on the other hand, gives me hope for this game. But I agree with Mirai; hopefully it won't be another Ninja Blade in terms of QTE.

Kerensky287 07-29-2009 10:21 AM

Screw cinemaction. I'm a little cautious about the whole "orchestrating your ballet of death" thing they kept using as a catchy buzzword.

Honestly, I'm kinda sick of the constant Space Marine focus in all the WH40k games, but who knows, maybe these guys will kick the asses of something that isn't Orks and Chaos (the latter of which will INEVITABLY show up).

Kurosen 07-29-2009 10:50 AM

Space Marines do get way too much attention, but they make up something like at least half of the total played armies out there, so you can't fault GW for going with what works. Plus, as completely unsympathetic as the Imperium is, everyone else is worse. Except for the Tau, and thanks to their game being poorly made they're considered a toxic IP to hang another game around. Lame!

krogothwolf 07-29-2009 10:56 AM

Well, the Tau are suppose to have low associations with the chaos and since they are barely a blip in the warp they aren't really that corruptible. So they get to remain the noblest race in Warhammer history. Yet they get screwed with a crappy game. I hope they add Tau to Dawn of War 2 though, I always enjoyed playing them in Dawn of War 1.

But they did have a Turn Based strategy game from the eldar's focal point as well.

Honestly with what they're going for here I can see Space Marines being the only viable choice. They're plugging the whole 'heroic badasses with melee weapons and small arms', active combo systems, etc etc etc. Gotta impress people to get them interested, so you have thunderhammers, powerclaws, etc.

As much as I absolutely hate to say it, it kind of reminds me of CAD.

"Pfft, this is lame-"
"These guys have chainsaw swords."
"This is the coolest game ever."

This, of course, gives me a great idea for a Call of Duty/Tau mashup once the franchise gets some video game roots.

I wonder when they'll make a left 4 dead clone where you fight 'nids instead of zombies

Masaki-kun 07-29-2009 09:51 PM

This is somewhat off topic but congrats to me. I finally know what Brian's avatar for the last few years has been about.

I WILL BUY THAT RIGHT THIS SECOND.

GAME DEVELOPERS! I SUMMON THEE!

...They could even make different campaigns with different races. And the Guard one could be about Ciaphas Cain!

On topic: I wonder how many Marine vehicles they'll include? Because I took a stop in the local GW recently and found a new Space Marine codex with these motherfuckers in it. Like, just give me ONE LEVEL in one of these babies.

EDIT: You know what? Fuck it. Scrap the game and give me Warhammer 40k: Imperial Dreadnought.

Sweet, I would so get that game too! There is GW computer gaming plan for the next year

Warhammer 40k: Tyranid Invasion. It could have Tau, Guard and Eldar campaigns, anything else would feel to powerful for it.

Warhammer 40k: Imperial Dreadnaught. I would like to think they could add a furioso dreadnaught too, those are always fun to use in 40k

On Topic, I want to know if its pick person your using for the campaign, per mission or if its assigns them to you before hand.

The only thing I have against this is essentially Orkz are hilarious to everyone not fighting an ork. I think a good Orky game would work fabulously.

Space Hulk would be great. You'd have everyone saying it 'rips off AVP.' Hilarity abound.

Professor Smarmiarty 07-30-2009 02:51 PM

I for one hope they never remake that game- it still scares me to this day.
I played the board game at first and it was super fun. So I got the game- was like "Yay! This'll be fun". I was wrong. Dead wrong.
There is no fun in space. Abandoned space hulks carry no treasure. Only the slow march to your own death.

krogothwolf 07-30-2009 02:52 PM

Hey, i totally enjoyed that game! My fav Space Marine game so far is Chaos Gate!
