NonCon beats RT to starting a Dragon Quest IV DS thread

Why should you all play Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen?

1. Mother 3 shamelessly rips it off and if it's good enough for Itoi it's good enough for you.

2. It is hard without being too grindy, and once you reach Chapter 5 you are expected to actually think about what characters you choose for your party, rather than some games where you just level Random Party Member A to fit Class Type B.

3. It has an entire chapter of after game content, complete with a new unlockable character*, a new dungeon, a new secret boss, and a new final boss**, and some extra shit involving a town named after you.

Also, everything except the monster collecting that RT said made Dragon Quest V great applies to this game.

Oh, and at one point a Heal Slime named Healie joins your party. Ragnar and Healie = BFF.

* The unlockable character is the Final Boss of the regular chapters.

**The extra final boss is Freeza.

I made a thread about this when it first came out.

You fail.

Still, its a totally great game and you should play it and V and VI when it is released.

Fuck you NonCon. Fuck you.

I've only played the NES version to completion, so I'm eager to try the extra chapter.

I love how the three of us are the only people losers enough to post in this thread despite this arguably being a forum full of nerds and losers.

Or are we the only ones cool enough? Seriously though, this is, like, my favorite DS RPG right now. I needs to order me in a copy of DQV so I be a squeally fangirl about that, too.

I loved how Chapter Six is basically all, "You liked the game, right?" "Hells yeah I did!" "And the ending was all super happy, right?" "Hells yeah it was!" "Would you like an even happier ending?" And then I ran around fixing EVERYTHING.

That's because im a big enough loser to be playing it again for the 7th time since it came out, im addicted to this damn game.

DQV is definitely a lot better than DQIV. The pacing is much better (reminds me of Chrono Trigger) and it tells a much more personal story.

Yeah, I liked DQV better than DQIV. Not sure why I should replay either of them, but DQV would probably be more at the top of my list.

Also yeah Mother 3 took the chapter structure and such from DQ IV and the game sort of follows the same trajectory as far as the party goes but still. They're very different.

EDIT: I mean, not sure why I should replay either of them other than that they're completely great, I mean.

Maybe in a few more years when I've sufficiently forgotten the plots.

Yeah, I don't have a DS, nor do I have the time for an RPG. You want to talk about the themes and motifs of Eureka Seven? I can geek out about that, if you want.
