That's kind of where I was guessing the comic would go, since over the top dickery like Master Fei's is often covering up their true personality, for whatever reason. I cite Kurei in the Flame of Recca manga as an example, who always acted like a first class dick, but you find out later he had good reasons for acting that way and it went against his true nature...

Plus, if he's that bad, why would Wong's father send him there? And if Fei was so bad, why would he take Wong in?

And HIKYM is a kung fu movie in comic strip form, isn't a staple of kung fu movies the crotchety old master with a heart of gold?

Anyways, I've been an 8 bit follower since day one, and have been following Brian Clevingers other projects ever since. I figured the ground floor of a new comic was as good enough a reason to join the forums as any.

So far, I'm impressed with it.

The art beats out the likes of Michael Poe's Errant Story, IMO, which is often thought of as a high quality art style webcomic.

This one doesn't seem to be an outrageous farce.

I mean, we can make fun of the fat uy, but, uh... "Everyone's favorite Jackass, Master Fei!"

That's like arms, legs, and a face on a dancing, cartoon cowboy boot to advertise for a western outfitting store. It just doesn't really work.

Not that the story is bad. I just don't see how or when it'll be impressive yet. Whatever. iunno. I'm very cynical of the manga/anime whatever eastern fanboy crap genre.

I would be boring if he listened to Poe. This way he gets bad-ass forbidden martial arts rather than the average door-punching kind (which is bad-ass in its own respects).

Red Mage is my favorite of the four light-warriors, but I felt BM would serve as more of a crowd-pleaser :p Plus I had a better idea for a pic of him at the time.

I think Red Mage might be next, once I get some time freed up. I'd also like to do a White Mage one as a kind of companion/contrast/complementary piece to the BM one. I'm not sure yet. Maybe I should make a poll so people can vote, but I have a feeling they'd all vote for Fighter, who doesn't seem all that interesting to me to draw :sweatdrop

I can already tell you the results of that poll anyway. BM's popularity carries far enough that a companion piece to his will win because it's related to him. Actually I like that idea, I'm fond of contrasts.

Not sure I'll go THAT far, but I'm fond of drawing girls more than guys so we'll see about it :)
