Well, Wong is just a 10 year old w/o any training. I take that into account when I have him do martial arts stuff this early in the story. He's just aping Fei's movements at the moment, he has no real idea what he's doing. It'd be kinda stupid to have him do things perfectly right out, you know? At least.. i guess that seemed realistic to me at the time, dunno if it was the best way to do it, but that's how I did it ^_^

And he was only able to block Fei's punch at all because Fei was just kinda lashing out in anger. It was an untrained strike, but out of habit Fei added a semi-mantis form to it. I figure if Fei was trying to hit Wong w/ a "real blow" Wong probably wouldn't be able to see it, much less block it.

This "fight" was no more than some emotional reactions on the part of the participants. When I have people who are experts actually fighting, it will be different.

I should really start making T(ea)-shirts or something to pass out as the ranks of the Great Tea Conspiracy movement grows. :sweatdrop

Hi All.

Just joined after discovering HIKYM and I must say I'm really digging the comic and look forward to each update. :D

It's especially interesting for me because this year I became a disciple under the Hwei lineage to GM Liu Yun-Chiao (through Wu Tang Australia). Prior to this I had been learning Mantis for about a year (mostly Liu He - Six Harmony).

In addition to this I am also leaning Yang style Taiji, a couple of weapons and a couple of months ago I started learning one of the closed door arts my school has: Baji.

It's very, very hard work, but incredibly rewarding.

So yeah, HIKYM has some of the best art I've seen in a long time, an interesting opening story, plus it's sorta mirroring my own experiences in the sense of starting the next stage of my martial arts journey as a disciple.

I'm very interested in how it will turn out.

Glad you like it so much so far, I hope I don't make too many errors when it comes to depicting the styles :)

I'm nowhere near any kind of an expert about any of these martial arts.. I studied a few books and I mainly get my cues from videos I watch. I prefer watching videos of real fighters, people who are in combat to win, not "perform". However I still watch some movies, to give it a little flare :)

I love the look on Master Fey's face in the second-to-last panel. It gives a perfect mixure of shock, disbelief, and indigestion! Nice going!

Heh, a couple do seem a little odd to my eyes, but then I am just a small grasshopper still starting out. :whee:

My Sifu has said that he has seen people use one or two fingers in the "Mantis Fist" so the left hand in the 5th picture in comic # 14 is quite correct.

And usually the thumb is tucked in behind the first one or two fingers in the Mantis Fist, bottom pic of comic # 11, as the thumb is what gives them support. But then he just got sprung by Po, enough to break anyone's concentration ^.^

But don't put too much stock in what I say. The amount of things I know about mantis is vastly outweighed by what I don't know...:sweatdrop
