Dead Frontier
Heya guys. There's this game called Dead Frontier That I'm sure at least some of you have heard of, or even played. Are any of currently playing? I've recently become pretty addicted to it.
For those unfamiliar, it's a top-down zombie killing game. Looting for weapons, ammo, medical supplies, and food is essential to survival. The farther away from the "Outpost" (The last bastion of humanity revealed in the context of the game), the harder the zombies become, but the etter loot there is possible to get. The game changes things up by throwing "irradiated (or bright green)" zombies at you at rare and random times, which increases aggro of the zombies. However, the green zombies drop good loot themselves! ...Most of the time. There's way too much to mention; the possibility of spending real money if you choose to get a little upper hand is there, the marketplace is thriving, and changes depending on if you make your own outpost farther into different sections of the city, and the different food/medical supplies you can use changes as you level up: a level 21-30 player needs bandages to heal themselves; the "Steri-strips used from level 11-20 are useless to him then. Anyway, I just wanted to introduce the game, in case some people happen to find the game as fun as I do. =) |
This is quite the nifty game.
I decided to man it out and be a fireman, thinking that ammunition and guns would be both rare and expensive in this game. First item I find is 213 9mm bullets. Lame! So this game is pretty creepy, I can't see a thing and I decided to brave it out with my Fire Axe. Bring it on! Edit: And now I realise that logging out does not put you back to the outpost. I am hopelessly lost! Edit edit: I have discovered the map! Edit edit edit: HOLY CRAP THERE ARE ZOMBIES EVERYWHERE |
Haha, yeah. if you set the quality to low at the beginning screen, though, everything's lit up like daytime. kinda cheap maybe, but I don't want to risk overheating my graphics more han it already does, the pathetic little thing.
Oh, and the game is in Beta, I forgot to mention. Missions were just added to the game, and customized avatars will be coming out very soon, or such has been told. Oh, last thing, I'm Sir Pinkleton on there too, so if you want to look for me for advice or whatever, there you go. |
I just might have to look into this.

I attempted multiplayer and after a while the game just seems to become very unresponsive. Would you know if this is a graphical or a latency issue?
I enjoy that there is a single player mode with the online one. It's like playing PSO all over again! Oh yes people who are giving this a go, dieing = losing all money on hand. So be sure to store it, as I found this out the hard way. By the way, both of your Avatars together amuse me. http://picasion.com/pic12/0dd6634b9a...0990a795dc.gif |
Looks nice, I'll also try it later.
* my avatar is very pleased with your avatars* |
This is kind of fun. Really dark.
I am already growing a dislike for the quasi-persistance of the world, though. The setup is nice, and the diablo-style gaming is really nice. But, having to quit out of the game to level, shop, etc. Very annoying. |
Also, dying means you lose half of all of the experience you gained while out of the outpost. so you'll never lose EXP, but it slows you down, yeah.
Also, if you guys have any question, I'd almost reccomend just asking me. the people on the forums are very unforgiving. >.> Quote:
Otherwise, I believe the game uses Java, so maybe it's not able to give you the level-up screen while in game, or other things. I know that when I check my inventory (i) I'm given a new screen. EDIT: Oh der, I forgot the Wiki: http://deadfrontier.wikia.com/wiki/Dead_Frontier_Wiki Very helpful, though not the be all end all info for the game, of course. |
Sense doesn't matter, it's a zombie game. The having to leave your game thing is annoying because it leaves the momentum hanging. It would be better with a more pure Diablo setup, having your own "outpost" of sorts in a game you make. It's also doable with Java, because I've played other Java MMOs with pure persistance.
Alas, it's annoying but it's not the end of the world (ha ha). I referred a couple zombie-loving friends and may have a survivor party out there scavenging soon. |
Can't cook food out of the outpost? Bugger that. Killing zombies with fire is good and all, but you've given me the bright idea of chucking food at them while they're on fire for a tasty snack on the go!
