How successful is Atomic Robo currently?
Atomic Robo has been out for almost two years now so I hope by now Mr. Clevinger has an idea of just how well Robo is doing.
So, is it selling well? Is the fanbase still widening? After all, if you don't make enough money, how can you possibly live up to the demands of your felines? The Wandering God |
Compared to A-list Marvel and DC titles, it's a flop. Compared to other new titles about new characters by new creators from a new publisher it's huge.
The difficulty in gauging Atomic Robo's popularity is that there's too much to track and no reliable method to track any of it. Yeah, you'd think it'd be easy to track physical sales, but welcome to world of failure that is Diamond Distribution. We also have no idea what our iPhone penetration is, though we remain in the top 20 of book apps even though our sales are divided between two different apps per comic. And none of this takes into consideration how many people read scans. All I can say is that Atomic Robo comics and trades are constantly in demand and hard to find pretty much everywhere because no matter how many a given store orders, they sell out super fast. |

I went to go get some trades from my local shop of Robo only to find out it was like pulling teeth to support the comic/games shop I love. That seems like a good sign. |
Yup. Make no mistake, comic shops are incredibly rare. Marvel and DC Superhero Stores are all over the place.
|
On the rare occasion I hit a 'Things From Another World' or a more locale based shop, I always ask and they never, ever, have Atomic Robo.
Hate this country. Can't get cheap healthcare, can't buy Atomic Robo. Next thing you know DC and Marvel will own my insurance company! BAH! |

Ok, so, how about a Robo/ Emerson Wilde crossover?
|
Oh God yes. Borrow that guy Devin's costume and that guy Devin and make this happen.

This, of course, leads me to a great image of Emerson hunting at an anime convention.

This, of course, leads me to the great image of Emerson hunting at ComicCon while Robo is the guest of honor who announces the Eisner Awards in 2008, giving his own comic the award for Best New Series.
