The Music Games thread: I play plastic guitar irl
Been rather meaning to put up a thread for music games, and with a discussion apparently forming over in the DLC thread, there's no time like the present. So, whether it's Rock Band or Guitar Hero, or whether you're one of the 12 people who bought Rock Revolution, this is the thread for you. Ask questions, discuss songs, don't argue whether Rock Band or Guitar Hero is better or so help me I'll cut you but that doesn't seem to be much of a problem here.
DLC news may also be shared here. The posting of youtube videos along with them will not be looked down upon. Quoting relevant posts from the DLC thread: Quote:

Wait wait... Guitar Hero 5 annouced that will let you import songs from other games you have for free. So, better not jump to conclusions just yet
|
My social group isn't big on Rock Band and I played GH2 and 3 to hell and back, so I've been kind of lax ever since.
EDIT: Thread title is awesome. |
You know what the next Rock Band game needs? A rating system for individual songs that influences how often any individual song pops up in random setlists. Make it so a song can only be rated after you played it at least once and treat any not-yet-rated songs as having the highest rating and it should go over without any shenanigans.
Also: an option to save a) self-made setlists and b) various different outfits for your character. |
I really wish they'd get around to releasing Elite Beat Agents 2 or Ouendan 3. I need to get my 'solving people's problems by dancing silly to catchy pop music' fix.

... What, no Drummania? :(
|
I mean, I could understand if there were like six pages already, but six posts?
Yes, we were only six posts into a thread about music games, a massive category, and nobody mentioned the one you like. I'm sure it has to do with us hating/not liking/not caring about the game, and has nothing to do with the fact that there are hella lots of music games, and great ones at that.
No DDR? :( No O2jam? :( No Audiosurf? :( Given that I haven't played Drummania, perhaps you could explain why I should care about that over any other music game ever? After all, it's kinda silly to bring up how nobody has talked about it and then not talk about it. |
My social group is HUGE on Rock Band. It was awesome because before the Rock Band games came out, my group of friends and I kind of had this ongoing joke where we were secretly a rock band and we would discuss at lengths who would play what, and making up rock star names for us and a fake song list for our first album (there's a LOT of time to think of random crap when you work at a factory where you fold tissue paper for 8 hours a day like we did for a few summers). So when Rock Band came out/we finally got the chance to play it, we decided to make our imaginary rock band a reality.
But yeah, we can easily play Rock Band for 7+ hours straight during sleepovers. And that's with the same people on the same instruments the whole time (I'm the singer so I actually start losing my voice before we stop playing). We've actually managed to snap the drum pedal in half, and since we're all too poor/cheap to get a new one, we just patched up the old one with lots of tape. When I play with my brother and his friends they always tease me because I always pick songs that I guess don't suit me. Like I'm not the kind of person who should like to sing Man in the Box and Chop Suey. Guitar Hero is fun too, but I've really only played Guitar Hero 2 enough to really matter. I haven't played in awhile, but I was working on getting through the set list on Expert. Randomly, Quote:

Caffeine, work better, Goddammit.

It just stood out as especially ridiculous frowny facing that nobody has mentioned one game out of an entire genre within the first half of a page. It'd be similar to someone posting on the first page of an FPS thread "What, no Doom? :(" Just really, really silly. |
