Takes forever to load TF2

starting it, loading maps, all take several minutes. Anyone know probable causes/solutions

I dont think its hardware related, I have 1gb RAM and 3GHz CPU

Have you tried verifying the game files?

Go to the game, right click --> Properties ---> Local files

Aerozord 08-15-2009 08:24 PM

when you say go to the game, what do you mean? launch program, shortcut?

Jagos 08-15-2009 08:27 PM

Go to TF2 under My games when you look at your steam games, right click and you should see the properties.

Just delete local content and reinstall the game. See if that does anything. Is it just TF2? Loading games and such usually has a lot to do with your hard drive speed, on top of the usual.

I still got 51% of my HDD free, which is over 75 gigs. And well not really sure, its my only steam game, though its always been like that.

oh and I did verify the game files, check to see if it helped later. I hope so freakin thing took forever, like 5 hours

Jagos 08-16-2009 08:47 AM

Somehow, that doesn't sound right. I can verify the file in ~1 hour or even two.

I have 60 GB free, 2.1 GHz Processor, and 2 GB of RAM.

The only thing I have different from you is 10 GB and 1 GB more ram and less processing speed.

Maybe clear up some HDD space, and defrag? Also extra RAM to ease your processor may work as well.

Like Jagos said, easing system resources'll speed things up a bit. Windows does kinda come with some bloat so it (assuming you use windows, that is). A handy little program I use is Gamebooster, temporarily closes various unnecessary things that hog up system resources when playing games. Works dandy on XP and is compatible with Vista.

well I did verify everything, doesn't seem to have helped much. First server I tried to jump on timed out. I dont get it, things take forever on my computer despite the fact I have well above normal system specs, made a clean sweep with my anti-virus multiple times, and manage my background programs

Steam keeps its own little defrag option for games. Since TF2 gets lots of updates it could probably use a defrag - have you tried that?
