How to record videos from your TV/consoles/whatever
to take opportunity of this Thread...
I have a somewhat old TV set, and i i were to run a cable between it and my PC the shortest distance would be about 15Ft. My pc has a GeForce Fx 5200 with a TV out port (i used to have another tv as a second monitor). You guys know what i could do to be able to record what i play on my TV onto my computer? |
Pretty sure what you use as a display doesn't enter into it, any proper recording software grabs the data directly from your PC's hardware before it's ever sent to the display. Fraps seems to be what most people use, and the Wikipedia article has a link to an open-source alternative called Taksi. I'm not particularly experienced, though.

i was considering recording what i play on my WII, for fun, or reviews or Let's play. But i have no clue on how to do that.
I guess i'll have to probe around for a way, but if anybody has an idea on how to hook it up, post it here! |
Ooooooh now I get it. Completely misunderstood that.
I'm gonna split this question off into a new thread though. |
Thanks!!
With a quick search i found these http://img.inkfrog.com/pix/wow2buy/H35AA.jpg It has the basic composite cables and a Svideo cable (which my Video Card accepts) and it costs just under CORRECTION: Not under$20 but actually under $10. Probably not HD quality, but i'm really not looking for it. Now i just need to check for it's quality.. see if it's worth it. If anybody has another ideas or if you know if these cables are worth it or not, let me know! |
Does it come with recording software? That would be a very good deal indeed.
|
Actually yes. It comes with Ulead Video Studio 8.0 SE. but from the videos i got at Youtube it seems to work with Windows Movie Maker, and (i hope so) Sony Vegas.
You can pick this up by $8,95 with free shipping, and everywhere i look seems to be worth the price tag... so i'll be picking this up for sure. |

The review of the product by some youtubers. Apparently it doesn't suck. |
Wow that is a good deal. I've seen a contraption like that here called Dazzle that usually runs about $60 or so and records console stuff at 480p. Apparently HD quality ones do cost hundreds, though. So only scary corporate review sites are rich enough to carry those.

There's a lot of well priced ones actually, but for a quality capture card, it'll run about $80 from a reliable card, such as Winfast or Haupauge.
I don't even want to spell Haupauge because they're bastards to configure but beautiful in function. (going by what I use at work) |
