Dragon Warrior
 

So a buddy of mine has been telling me about the Dragon Warrior series for a long time now. He really adores them, thinks they should be RPG canon. I decide, being as I've never played ONE before, that I should start. I'm beginning with DW 1+2 for the Gameboy Color.

So anyways, I bring up this thread for a few reasons.

First and most important: Anyone here a Dragon Warrior fan or, perhaps, not a fan. And why? Dicuss the series.

Second: Anyone know a site where I can get access to English ROMs of DW4, 5, and 6? Any help would be appreciated!

Dragon Warrior?????? never heard of it.

They are also called Dragon quest in japan.

I played the DW1 a few times way back when. There's a sprite comic about it in the links section, as I recall.

Sorry to detract but does anyone know where I could find the Phantasy Star games for GBA? I can't find 'em anywhere.

The Dragon Warrior series is amazing, not as good as the classic Final Fantasies, but still worth playing. I would suggest without hesitation that you, if nothing else, try out DW1 and DW4. The others are good, if you have the free time, but 1 and 4 are must haves.

Dragon Warrior was my first RPG, I believe. First one I owned in any case. It's what made me love RPGs in the first place...

It's far better than the first FF by today's standards. The story is still kind of hokey, but you have actual characters, instead of one or two line things coming from people, and the battle curve isn't so blasted ridiculous. Although the first FF has it's advantages (like team customizeability).

Personally, so far I'm enjoying Dragon Warrior 1 FAR more than FF1. It just seems funner. I'm not really sure why. Oh well.

Also, I did manage to find a ROM for Dragon Warrior 4. Still searching for English translated ROMs of DW5 and 6 though. I didn't seem to enjoy the little I played of 4 as much as I'm enjoying 1. :P

I'm surprised anyone on here has NEVER heard of the DW series. Just shows what some people are missing out on. Do you all realize quite how huge these games are in Japan?

Which DW was it that let you pick out a team with any classes you want (except the main character had to be hero)? Was that four? I played that one awhile. I liked it a lot... I loved having Jesters in my team. Sure, they sucked at equivalent levels... but they also exped like mad. Besides, just imagine a group of vicious monsters versus bozo the clown.

Kry: If it is 4 then I'm not far enough in yet. From what I know of it so far (little), 4 takes place in 5 chapters with different characters that meet up in the final chapter.

Ahh... not four then. Maybe it was 2. I don't remember which it was... I only played it for a few days while visiting my uncle in georgia. My cousin had it.

You picked out your team almost immediately. Or rather... hired them. They were mercs, I think, that you could hire to go out with you. You could go out alone too, but it'd be suicide.
