What is so great about your excellent country?
 

A thread in which we talk about the things we like about our countries.

America produces some great TV shows, has some rad state parks, and for all its faults is still a lot more racially/ethnically inclusive than many if not most other places I can think of.

We've also mastered the art of food on a stick. Don't forget that.

I can have Chinese and Mexican food whenever I want!

Two Words:

Arrested Devolpment.

In Canada, we have free healthcare. Yes the wait is longer then some countries, but I can rest easy knowing my surgery (yes I am going for surgery) will not cost me thousands of dollars.

One thing I like about the U.S. is its size. The fact you can go exploring several cultures, from Deep South to Bostonian, and never leave home gives me a good feel.

In many ways, we truly are a melting pot.

New Zealand: We take other peoples sports, strip away everything protecting you from death then claim the original sport is for pussies!
Also something that is not common in Europe: shops (especially supermarkets) are open 24-7. Good chunks of Europe are closed on Sundays and close at like 6 pm. If you need a hit of snowballs and some beer at 3am on a Tuesday, NZ has you covered.

The fact that we were a test case of attempt proper relations with indigineous peoples and we still honour the treaties we signed with the Maori, even giving them ridiculous favourable readings, to this day. They still overrepresented in poverty and crime but it's better than most.

The fact that we don't have guns and corresponding low crime rate makes me feel very safe. Also the policemen don't have guns and treat you as a person rather than a criminal.

Also bacon and egg pies. Holy fuck I miss bacon and egg pies.


As for Scotland: There is nothing. Nothing at all.

Most of the drinkable water in the world, the largest rain forest, the least natural disasters. Nobody wants to bomb us, we don't want to bomb anybody...

Things are pretty good on that front here!
