What's There To Do?
So I`m moving in with a friend, and apart from a few shifts at work and cleaning the apartment for a shiny old security deposit, there`s really nothing to do while everybody`s at work/school.
I would say 'go to a bar,' but my cash flow situation is on shaky ground 'cause of the whole moving thing, same goes for the aquarium and movie theater - bowling might be cool, but it's not fun to play alone. The beach is too cold here in the frozen wastes of Canada, and I've nothing to do inside the flat but get big doses of Cabin Fever. I'm a pasty white computer nerd wondering what life is like beyond the reaches of my keyboard. Help me /afk. What do you guys do for fun outside? |
Sports!!!! Get a dog and take it for walks, Dog's make excellent companions to whisk away lonely days! If the place doesn't allow pets or roomie is alergice or something then you're pretty much looking at sports or gyms and swimming pools.

Outside?
|
We've had a long stretch of "that mysterious bright thing in the sky" posts in another thread the other day, let's not go into another iteration of the "us nerds don't know what outside is" shtick.
Lack of money is a bit of a hindrance in most activities. You could take walks and get to know your new neighborhood. Or go to the library and get a truckload of interesting books and DVDs! |
Find a good bike route and get in shape? Then again, with winter approaching...
|
Go find a girlfriend... or boyfriend. I don't really know what your orientation is.
|
Immerse yourself in the classic, thrilling adventure tales of Edgar Rice Burroughs.

I like going outside to draw/write/play guitar/other creative things. If you have a lick of creativity it might also be a way to make some extra money. At least in my college town, I guess there's this park that artists go to every Sunday and bring old sketches/whatever and people buy them or commission sketches. Even if you don't think you're very good if you can market something in a creative way for cheap, you might be able to make some extra money.
Other fun outdoor activities: Biking, going for a walk, visiting a park, volunteering somewhere, playing with sidewalk chalk, gardening, building something, etc. |
I've become a bit of a nut when it comes to bike riding for recreation, which alarms me as much as the rest of my friends, but it's alarmingly theraputic to bike yourself for a half an hour over to a sandwich shop, have lunch, then bike back. It seems silly as hell but it does wonders.
I'm also going to back up CJ on the creativity bit - if you do anything creatively it's worth going outside and hanging in a cool part of some kind of park to soak up rays, hold a notepad, and get contemplative. |
