As forum members: Are we spoiled or Mature?
 

Now, this is a bit weird... and please, don't feel stuck in "serious mode" about it. It's actually a little bit funny...

From time to time, i look for other forums, Forums that are usually specialized in certain subject, be it a certain genre or just for movies, or one specific anime series or just about games... mainly because i believe that in those forums i would be able to get access to a "different hue" of experiences that i could possibly get in this forum model. Where we have a little bit of everything...

Now, i'm not talking about your usual suspects... yeah, those popular forums we all know. I'm talking about "the other stuff". Basically any forum that has a decent website attached to it (enough to get me interested) and a decent sized community.

But before i register to any forum, i like to take a look at the people there... how the talk, what they talk, how they behave, how they post...

Usually, more often than not, i end up in the conclusion that i would be picking up fights and arguments with half the people there in less than 1 week...

You know when you go to an anime Forum and 90% of the threads you can see are from people talking trash about the damn thing (amidst people who actually enjoy it), saying that it sucks because they don't like it, or it's the best thing ever because they like it. And generally rubbing their own or each others pricks in a major internet prick-fest that produces nothing at all... and it's pretty much the same in Game forums too.

When i see that (and i see that a lot) i just feel the need to step away, and usually end up back here...

It's a bit weird. Am i just spoiled by this strangely balanced atmosphere we have here or are we really less of a shithole than the rest of the Internet?! It boogles the mind, really. Maybe i'm just not lucky on my forum searching...

I think this forum runs on a spicy cocktail of good natured dickery. That's what makes us special.

This. Most of us suck at handling SERIUS BIZNIZZ, but we're very laid back and easy-going for the most part, which a lot of forums don't like.

I mean, we aren't like Websites That Shall Not Be Named, either, so if someone wants to have fun and not be a dick, people can go here.

We also more or less require a sense of humor, something a lot of people seem to lack.

Yeah, we're awesome. I contribute a large part of it to myself. I've learned my lessons from other forums and I'm conscientously practicing them.

Those other forums? I pretty much ruined them with rash and irresponsible actions. It's a pattern of ruin and desolace I've left in my trail. I'm not saying the Internet lives and dies at my whim. . . only the parts of it that I touch. ^_^

That's because they don't get enough BUTTPRESSO in their life.

But yeah, I think we just have a good mix. Enough seriousness to balance out the immaturity and enough humor to keep from being too offensive.

What maturity? This is a forum for a sprite comic that uses sprite's from a game that's like 20 years old! Not including the remakes. And fifth fiend is our mod! There is no maturity here, just a pub like atmosphere.

Yeah this place is rather nice, and has had a pretty good effect on me. After all when I first came here I was a gifted kid who thought he knew every-goddamned-thing and was probably part of the mass that caused that effect in other forums. With what little experiences I've had around the way it keeps my mind open and welcome to new thoughts.

So when things are serious I'd say folks are mature, and if you aren't there are people willing to beat you until you are. Though elsewise folks just try to be amusing...still working on that.

I find this a very interesting conversation as most of your names are only fairly recent to my knowledge, so I can't vouch for your maturity. Unless some of you had name changes in the past, which makes you seem like new people to me.

This forum is fairly mature with regards to the rules and standards of communication. We don't like peeps who don't kno hw to use teh keybaord and point them towards things like Typing of the Dead. We usually all follow the rules, and most bans on this forum are actually joke bans due to some shenanigans of some sort. (more on them later). Because Usually, when one of us crosses the line, it's not long after that they admit that they had done so and apologize. (unless it was in the now deceased Discussion).

In terms of immaturity, we made a thread recently on how we could send bugs into the vacuum of space, and drew up plans for ODSW: Orbital Drop Space Wasps, and most of us here like Anime and Vidjamagames long after having spawn and jobs.

So we have the playful immaturity of men in their 40's who still go to KISS concerts and built their own in-home arcade. Sure, we know how to act in the real world, but we're still awesome.
