When someone says "If your homebrew Wii gets bricked you had it coming" that's more or less how you end up there - the argument escalates under both party's assumption that Nintendo did this intentionally.

Although I do have to wonder exactly how come you quoted it out of order. It doesn't go from C to R to B.

Speaking frankly that might be true but it speaks volumes that they are deleting threads and trying to hush it all up.

Besides up until this update nothing was ever wrong; homebrew would just get erased and patched over.

well doesnt that suck, I just started modding my Wii to play Guitars on Fire (songs I made) and Balanced Brawl.

Seeing as the last game I bought was Mario Kart wii, I think Im just gonna skip this update

The symptoms most people are describing usually occur when the Wii has been modified.
Sounds pretty intentional.

Mind if I inquire about your connections? :D

Nikose Tyris 10-01-2009 06:02 PM

Sadly yes. Talking about connections = Removal of connections.

But really it's actually fairly open knowledge among most testing facilities, or so it seems. They really CAN'T just come out and say "haha we just bricked a ton of modded Wii's" but if it was predicted (by me a short while ago), and then it happened, and Modded Wii consoles are deemed a threat to sales...

1+1+1=3?

I dunno, I just tend to be very skeptical of these sorts of rumors. This is mostly because I know that in the small company I work in all kinds of plausible rumors float around that completely aren't true, but are believable enough that they don't go away.

Nintendo is huge.
1+1=2?

Guy who would know says, "Nintendo is going to brick modded consoles." And update that comes out shortly after bricks modded consoles. The update was designed to go after any modding on the system. I'm gonna say that's one too many coincidences for me to think it's just a rumor.

Not for me. Since its specifically targeted at getting rid of the mods, its not hard to understand how it could fuck up and brick some of them. And some non-modded ones (!).

Its also not hard to see how a statement about getting rid the modding "for good" or some such could be misconstrued on the grapevine to be about bricking the modded ones. The man who would know is at the end of this grapevine.

Did it brick all modded consoles that installed it? I've just seen alot of mights and maybes on that front. Actually, I believe I read something about the state of a modded machine after the update, saying that the homebrew channel and such were gone. For them to say that, it would have to be working. I find it hard to believe that if Nintendo intended to brick modded consoles, that they would miss any. Brick some unmodded ones? Easy to see. Miss some modded? Enh...doubtful.

Plus, what's their incentive if they can just delete the mods and leave you a paying customer?
