Massive penetration

Apparently, the U.S. is planning a unilateral pre-emptive strike on the Moon tomorrow using our latest weapon, the Massive Ordnance Penetrator (only a rumor), a 30000 lb non-nuclear bomb. Or they will just end up using a solid missile projectile. I am strongly against this action, as it will only destabilize our already tarnished relations with extraterrestrials. The Moon's press sectretary has already stated that any show of force would be considered an act of war.

In all seriousness, the bombing is supposed to help us figure out how much water vapor is on the Moon. But, some are against it because they fear what will happen to its magnetic field and others think this is the U.S. being intergalactically imperialistic.

Whelp, this wasn't what I was hoping for based on the title. I am extremely disappointed in Bob for not penetrating enough.

I always new the US strategy was strike first against all threats, but you guys do know the moon can't hurt you right?

In all Serious, it sounds more like they want to demonstrate to everyone what they can do to you. "Hey Iran, you can do that? Watch what we can do"

This is not at all what I expected when I saw the thread title. I am extremely disappointed. ERGH FUCK NINJA'D

Dumb US is dumb. I can't help but feel that explodering our satellite for SCIENCE sounds kinda dumb, but whatevs.

Totally relevant.http://i34.tinypic.com/241j8uc.gif

For Chissakes, why are they doing this? Isn't it easier to just sens some rovers or something that's not going to knock the moon out of orbit or bring it crashing down on us?

I know that sounds silly, but they're sending a tactical missile to blow a spectacular chunk off our closest and most important satellite, which controls everything from tides to animal mating patterns. I very much like my tides and fuzzy kittens, thank you, and really have no interest in the moon's rotation or orbit being thrown off, even slightly, just so people can check an explosion for water when sending a robot with a shovel would probably be just as effective.

I knew humans were stupid, but GOD this is stupid. Not that I don't trust they've done tons of math, but solving problems with explosions is part of what screwed our world up thus far in the first place and is really sadly telling about our culture.

So apparently no one at NASA has seen the movie version of The Time Machine?

Are you suggesting they are not?
