Problem

ok, a friend of mine got a porno site stuck in his adress bar and doesn't know how to delete it. Help? BTW: He's using a PC

Yes, "stuck"...

Hehe, nah, check what the home page has been set to, and reset it to default if it isn't Microsoft-related.
If that doesn't work, tell your friend to take the computer to a computer specialist.

but.. but,, we ARE comptuer specialists

try this. open IE. click "Tools" select "Internet options". under "Homepages" you'll see three buttons. one will be "Use current" (that would set your homepage to this thread right here), one is "Use default" (that should set it to MSN or some crap) and one is "Use blank". click "Use blank". or jsu ttype in whatever homepage you want it to go to when you open your browser.

make sure you click "apply" as well

He said address bar, not homepage. Meaning it's in the top where you click the arrow for recently visited sites, I believe.

Clear his history. That'll keep the 'rents from seeing the porno. Either that or you have to get about twenty sites in the address bar above it, to scroll it off.

The Tortured one 05-03-2004 01:22 AM

lol, thats what I usually do, Krylo, just scroll down my favorites list :) if you want me to start posting sites, just ask :) you actually have to copy and paste them to get them to show up in the adress bar

also might behoove you to go to download.com and download ad-aware to eliminate any spyware it might have left.

you could also delete cookies and temporary internet files to finish the job

i sort of assumed he ment it was in his addy bar when he opened IE. That could have happened if he "Accidently" *cough* clicked a link and whenhe tried to leave the site it popped up one fo those "Whole you liked to make Porn4u.com your homepage??" java scripts and he inadvertantly clicked yes.

but i guess he didnt say that explicitly. So until further information, im just throwing out ideas.

bu yeah, clearing this history might help.

if you mean that it landed in your "Links" bar, then you should jsut be able to right click the pono site's button and select "delete".

Before you rid yourself of anything, copy all the decent pictures onto disk. ...what?!

I think your problems should have been covered by this helpful lot.

Who wants to bet it's a browser hijacker? *raises hand*

Get ad-aware from www.lavasoft.de or spoybot search and destroy from security.kolla.de for that deep down fresh feeling!

Failing that hemight need to find out what the overall problem is. If he has xupiter or c2.lop or coolwebsearch his problems are a little worse than a few porn sites in his toolbar and he will have to search google for sites that will remove coolwebsearch or the other hijacking tools.

those are all the things i would have done. so i cant be of any help.
