Mantihose

AKA "Wow. What were they on when they thought that up?"

Now, I know some guys want to look pretty sometimes...but...um..I'll let the article speak for itself.

http://newm3.newsvine.com/_news/2009...mentId=9763509

Now, what gets me isn't the fact this exists. It's the fact some costs $115US. Now who in their right mind would pay that much for pantihose? And what's wrong with some of the stuff out there already? Not good enough or something?

Magic_Marker 10-20-2009 10:10 PM

I saw that and immediately asked why it exists on my Facebook status and have been calling people at random to see why this product exists.

Please explain because my mind is about to break

Nique 10-20-2009 10:10 PM

huh. Actually, the pantyhose make it less weird, at least with the dude in the miniskirt.

You have spoken non-sense. Explain your madness.

Flarecobra 10-20-2009 10:15 PM

What's worse...this was featured in my school's newspaper. >_<

phil_ 10-20-2009 10:17 PM

The price for "Mantihose" proper is a bit much, yeah. I wouldn't pay that much for any garment. However, the idea of men wearing leggings and such is not a new one, as there were several centuries where it was normal for a man to wear such things. Fashion goes in a cycle, if I may use a standard phrase, and this is just an example of this phenomenon. Maybe it will catch on, maybe it won't. I'll stick with my denim jeans for now because I appreciate their ability to last for years, not because sheer leg-wear for men is in any way a bad thing.

Without the hose, you'd be looking at his hairy legs. Instead, you're better able to focus on his well-turned calves.

Kim 10-20-2009 10:19 PM

None of those guys were cute at all. This thread is a disappointment to me.

MasterOfMagic 10-20-2009 10:21 PM

I don't think "less weird" is the proper description. "Less likely to make me scrub my eyes out", maybe.

Kerensky287 10-20-2009 10:44 PM

Apparently, wearing pantyhose while going on military rucksack marches helps to keep you from getting blisters.

...At least, that's how my Dad tries to defend himself.

Flarecobra 10-20-2009 11:26 PM

So can wearing a pair of thinner socks under the main pair.

Marc v4.0 10-20-2009 11:38 PM

So..like...didn't pantyhose START as a mens fashion thing?

Then women started using them more?

...this is one hell of a full circle...

Masaki-kun 10-21-2009 08:24 AM

That guy in the miniskirt. Seriously, what the hell? He's wearing it with a dress shirt and it almost makes it more disturbing...

32bit-RedMage 10-21-2009 09:38 AM

ooohh.... I see panties ! .........NO! I see MANties !!

Why are they so expensive??? Are they made out of Superman's old costume?

I think it's the tie that makes it creepy for me.

Krylo 10-21-2009 10:20 AM

I don't know what you guys are talking about.

I mean just look at how cute he is.

Lost in Time 10-21-2009 10:31 AM

Those shoes totally doesn't go with that skirt.

Edit: And don't get me started on that watch.

Nikose Tyris 10-21-2009 10:36 AM

It's actually pretty common right now for men to wear pantyhose under their clothes when they ride a motorcycle. It's just out of sight.

Also I wanted to defend that miniskirt as a kilt until I realized, no, there is no clan in the world that would support that short a kilt or those colors.

Fifthfiend 10-21-2009 10:48 AM

The concept doesn't bother me but goddamn that is a terrible name.

Meister 10-21-2009 11:03 AM

I've seen men wearing skirts and looking good in them but none of those skirts was a pleated miniskirt and I propose there is a connection. Also in the article the guy in picture three is gonna rip his before lunch break, I guarantee.

Pantyhose or stockings, granted, less common, but if I remember correctly one of the aforementioned men wore some and that also looked good. Sidenote: that was at least eight years ago. And I'm pretty sure I've seen Brian Viglione wearing patterned ones on stage as long as three years ago.

PyrosNine 10-21-2009 11:54 AM

While I would never wear them in public, I enjoy the feel of pantyhose. It's so nice on the skin, and nice to touch. I'd buy some as it would stem all those terrible urges to rub my hands up and down ladies on the street's legs.

I'd never buy a pair for over $10 though. You trip and fall, are not too careful with pencils and pens, or gain some weight, and it's little more than pleasant to the touch rags that cost you as much money as it costs to buy videogames. Or cat things.

I bet all those armed robbers will feel less silly, now that there are manti-hose to buy and wear over their heads.

krogothwolf 10-21-2009 12:21 PM

This made me think of Robin Hood Men in Tights for some reason and now the song is stuck in my head.

Mirai Gen 10-21-2009 12:24 PM

Fifth beat me to it.

Corel 10-21-2009 12:34 PM

TIGHT tights!

...God damn it, not again!

Funka Genocide 10-21-2009 02:43 PM

eh, it's just fashion. It really has no relevance on reality outside a cultural context.

I probably wouldn't wear them, but that's because I'm American, and for the most part American's are uptight and overly conservative, really has nothing to do with whether they look good or are morally wrong at all.

I do wonder how they got that dude in the second pic to smile so confidently whilst wearing a skirt though.

Also, for some reason I'm looking at his shoes and I feel worse about that fact that they're NOT high heels than I do about the skirt.

It's in the same league as guyliner.

Nique 10-21-2009 04:23 PM

Well, English has been missing gendered nouns for a while now. Why not? We could also start using Futurama's 'Fem-Bot' and 'Fem-Puters'?

Lost in Time 10-21-2009 04:31 PM

I'd prefer if our offices only had Man-Puters, to prevent a hostile work enviroment.

French is why not.

It might seem like fun now, but soon enough everything is gendered.

Magus 10-22-2009 08:09 PM

I thought this was pantyhose for Manticores. Talk about false advertising.

I think he may be one of the news reporters the article mentioned as fanning the flames. Those people can smile in the middle of a hurricane. I think wearing a "kilt" (yeah, right) is probably a cakewalk compared to the BS they normally deal with.

Do they come with a USB "friendly ass slap" attachment? You know, just so those women in the work force don't feel unappreciated?

I took French all throughout high school. The language actually makes a lot of sense once you learn all the rules. Actually, English is one of the few languages I know of that ISN'T gendered. You have it in the other Romance languages, German, and probably more. In Mandarin and other continental Asian languages, it's a bit different, but the words can have totally different meanings depending on who you say them to. A friend of mine who was in China for a while mentioned that "you have a pretty green hat" said to a woman meant just that, but said to a man, it was a grievous insult meaning "your wife is cheating on you."

pochercoaster 10-22-2009 09:41 PM

I think Archbio is actually fluent in french...

I've gotten used to the whole basic lectures on topics I'm familiar with from bluestarultor. French is my first language.

To be serious the problem with french isn't that it's gendered, but rather that it has no gender neutrality anywhere. Anyway that's my feeling. And there are things that aren't systematic or rationalized in both english and french... French is just more complicated for some things. That's how I excuse my written french being poorer than my written english.

Eh, sorry. I started rambling. :sweatdrop

Also, with everyone speaking English, I think I can be forgiven for not knowing what all else everyone speaks. For reference, my first language was Italian and I was more fluent in that than English when I was young (I don't remember a word anymore), which probably helped me learn French later on. Actually, I've lost a lot of my French in the past few years from lack of use, as well. Sucks losing languages. :(
