Where on the internet have you lost too much precious time?

Jerk FaceHey, what's this MSPA site everyone is talking about... ... ... ...Wow, where did all the time go? Wasn't it just like Noon?

.....Seriously man, what the hell, my brain still hurts from reading that stuff...

EDIT: Failtastical clarifying

Dracorion 10-21-2009 06:49 PM

Wouldn't a simple post in the thread in question have sufficed? Or if it was dead and you didn't wanna be a necrophiliac, let it go?

Magic_Marker 10-21-2009 06:53 PM

Yeah, I'm not a mod, but I'm pretty sure this is a little spammier than the we usually do things here. And I'm listed as friends with Krogo so I know what I'm talking about.

Flarecobra 10-21-2009 06:54 PM

What's the beef?

Kim 10-21-2009 07:02 PM

I don't know why linking somebody to MSPA is anything but a good thing, nor what thread you're talking about.

Grimpond 10-21-2009 07:14 PM

Ah, I just wasted about 6 hours on MSPA instead of doing important things that need to be done

Could be worse. Could've been TVTropes, then you really would've been fucked.

Grimpond 10-21-2009 07:16 PM

Oh god, I've wasted so many days just going through tropes. Why can't I stop myself!

I hate you all for reminding me of that place, hate you all with a passion!

Because everytime you cry a fairy dies and goes to hell, and I like killing fairies?

I know. Why do you think I mentioned it?

Just thank whatever deity you worship I'm not evil enough to have posted a link.

Kim 10-21-2009 07:28 PM

Threads complaining about being linked to totally awesome things are soooo last week.

Complaining about getting songs stuck in your head is the new 'in' thing

it got posted in that damn tvtropes thread, and i saw that during lunch, I forgot to eat during that lunch!

Funka Genocide 10-21-2009 08:06 PM

this thread is weak sauce broskis.

it's time to get on the "quote lines from 80's blockbusters" train and ride that shit straight into coolzville.

Masked Jedi 10-21-2009 08:43 PM

Coolzville?

You keep on using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Inconceivable!

Masked Jedi 10-21-2009 10:35 PM

"I give you my word as a Spaniard!"
"No good. I've known too many Spaniards."

Meister 10-22-2009 01:39 AM

So this is basically "thread where you say how much time you lost to random internet links and, if you haven't ever lost time to a link, just post whatever"?

... I was gonna close it but if we lose the "just post whatever" part I think there's potential here! No one say webcomics or TV Tropes, that'd be like going in a "Thread about things that are hotter than you think" and going "THE SUN!"

Fenris 10-22-2009 01:48 AM

I've spent too much time on the following:

www.mylifeisaverage.com
www.textsfromlastnight.com
www.cracked.com
www.www.nuklearforums.com
www.youtube.com
www.notalwaysright.com
www.thisisindexed.com

Kim 10-22-2009 01:50 AM

Not Always Right is like a train wreck of humanity that I can't tear my eyes away from. Every story I read makes me more and more infuriated with the stupid jackasses I encounter in my day to day life. There are some funny ones though.

Grimpond 10-22-2009 10:39 AM

www.cracked.com

This place is a comedy...news site? Is that the right word? It's still a good way to lose a few hours laughing. I have to say my favorites are the fantastical stories some of the writers (read: Dan O'Brian and Michael Swaim) put up

The early ones are good but all the newer ones are trying to be unusual anecdotes instead of properly mundane.

Which I guess makes it the perfect counterpart to FML.

Meister 10-22-2009 12:05 PM

All of these I pretty much came across one day and found myself reading the entire archives until late at night.

www.joshreads.com - Josh Fruhlinger reads the newspaper comics "so you don't have to" and points out things that are unusual or odd or terrible.

www.politedissent.com - a medical professional named Scott reviews comics as well as TV shows Fringe and House from a medical/scientific point of view. Very interesting.

www.thereifixedit.com - another of those themed blogs that seem to pop up all over the place lately (like Not Always Right or lolcats). This one features really, really amazingly bad DIY attempts. Tag cloud includes such tags as "electrical hazard", "probably illegal" and "frankenstein."

encyclopedia-obscura.com - this is one of those pop culture sites like X-Entertainment (which itself is another one I've spent too much time on) or I-Mockery. Actually the webmaster writes or wrote for the latter as well. Hasn't been updated in a while and it's probably just a matter of time until the domain registration runs out, but there are some very good articles.

Don't rightly know if I intended this to become a "share funny links" thread but then I couldn't say what I did intend it to become if anything, so what the heck.

Here, Wiki, Cracked, Here, Facebook, Here, Youtube and here are pretty much where I spend all my time online.

I lead an uninteresting life.

Actually all of these are pretty much the same thing.

Also averagecats are better then lolcats.

PyrosNine 10-22-2009 04:33 PM

TV Tropes, Wikipedia, HERE, that depressing webcomic I brought up and made a scandal with (even if I read it all in less than a week, it wasted time of my life being optimistic!), Newgrounds, Jayisgames, Battleon, several other wiki's related to games and media I enjoy, Speed Demos Archive, Let's Play, http://www.it-he.org/deus.htm, Onemanga, Mspaint adventures, and Pokemon.com because the website streams the soundtrack of 2 B A Master, and damn-it, I am nostalgic. We have to say goodbye! *CRIES*

Basically "fuck my life" is a collection of commonplace not that bad events and "my life is average" is a collecton of very unusual not-average events so I'm gonna be real disappointed if "love my life" isn't depressingly mundane. If it manages to be a collection of passably pleasant instances it would actually break the mold.

Today, after 16 straight losses, our football team won a game! LML!
Love my life delivers.

krogothwolf 10-22-2009 05:16 PM

Well, at least they weren't as bad as the Detroit Lions

Magus 10-22-2009 07:50 PM

I'm sure I've spent too much time here.

Thanks for ruining my life, guys.

Indeed. The older ones were the best ones for their average quality, but MLIA delivers on comedy the best of the 4 sites.

Probablybadnews is also quite good at wasting time. It's like failblog for news. Though it hasn't grown too large yet, so you can actually get through it in an afternoon.

A Zarkin' Frood 10-23-2009 09:02 AM

I once read this in one sitting.
And the evening was over.

CelesJessa 10-23-2009 11:46 AM

Even though it's a little mind-scarring.

Anyone who pays attention to me in the sketches thread now knows that I waste so much time in this Metal Gear Solid Paint Chat room.

I don't feel that bad about hanging out there because... well... drawing is never a bad thing, so I can partially disguise it as something productive. And it's really interesting to see how other artists go about drawing things. I think it helps me as an artist.

And if hanging out drawing a lot of stupid stuff is wrong, I don't want to be right.

I really would like to add Halolz to this thread, but i check it maybe 2 minutes per day at most.

I wast most of my online time on Orkut / Here

which is weird because i have MSN and hardly ever turn it on... that would be another little time waster, specially when Noncon showed me Sankaku.... so much NSFW, so Much Trap.... but funny time waster nonetheless

synkr0nized 10-23-2009 03:43 PM

FML is retarded.

Overheard in the Office
There are similar sites run by the same folks.

Passive-Agressive Notes
They know that not everything they post is, strictly speaking, actually passive-aggressive.

Let's Play and the LP Archive

Several of the other sites linked would be applicable, as well. I never used to spend much time going through websites looking to waste time, since games are always around, but meetings and things like that are always time sinks.

But really most of my lost Internet time has been inside a game environment more than any site.
