Sounds like exactly what they would say if the shirts were actually made by Taiwanese illegal sweatshop slave labour. So they're pretty obviously not authentic. You only get authentic shirts after you unlock the volcano quest by killing twenty [Jungle Ghouls] for [King Kamehameha]'s restless spirit. Even then, you still need [Silver Thread].
