My game is crashing...
Dragon Age Origins. I decided to try to play it but unfortunately, it seems to not want to work.
I'm trying to sort out a reason it's incompatible with my laptop when I can run TF2 and all of the requirements I seem to meet. Am I doing something wrong? |
Well, your system does meet the minimum requirements, if only barely, so we might be able to rule that out. Does Dragon Age produce any specific error screens or crash notifications?
Edit: Thanks for posting the DxDiag, that answered a lot of my early questions, letting us skip ahead. :P |
No. I can get into the game just fine. When I go to try a new game, all I get is a black screen and a message that my video card stopped, then resumes. After a few seconds of that, if I don't cut it off, I can't get off of the black screen. Ctrl, alt, del, won't do anything... The only way that I can get out of it is to turn my laptop off, then on again.
I tried setting the video options lower but the same black screen occurred. |
Hm. This might be beyond my level here, but I'm willing to take a shot at it. have you uninstalled/reinstalled?
|
Obviously your video card isn't strong enough to use the game and in fact gets overwhelmed and can't operate properly after the attempt...I suggest First trying to update the drivers and if that fails then buying a new video card.
Sorry. |
... Curses...
The fact that it's a custom video card means this laptop is only for smaller games like TF2. Thanks for the explanation but it seems I can't play Dragon Age at all... :( |
Yeah, just sounds like your GPU is struggling to render anything. Got the same problem when I was trying to run WoW on an ancient laptop that should have had trouble running Solitaire.
|
No but seriously try the uninstall/reinstall. "Not powerful enough" is a bullshit answer. Your video card is more then minimum spec, surprisingly.
Edit: KOTOR1 and 2 give me the same fuckin' thing on my quad core. |
I'd recommend updating to the latest driver, and checking the Read Me for Dragon Age. Often compatibility issues with certain cards/chipsets are listed there. Also, make sure your DirectX is updated to the latest version (Just to be thorough!)
|
Nope... I uninstalled and reinstalled. Driver igfx stopped responding and then decided to start back up, That's after I put the resolution down to 800x600 to try.
I updated the driver and use DX10 with no problems. |
