Mr Clevinger, a brief remark upon the cover of your forthcoming novel
To Mr. Clevinger, re your cover design for Nuklear Age:
Have you considered, perhaps, toning down the yellow? While I generally am not one judge books by their covers, I do make an exception for those that actually burn my retinas. This is no idle jest, I still see the image each time I close my eyelids. I was looking forward to purchasing your book and whiling away a few happy hours in belly-shaking amusement at your sardonic exaggerations of mankind's foibles. It is a bit silly, I suppose, to be swayed in my interest by such trivialities... it is only that I fear that the presence of this object in my home would seize hold of my conscious thoughts even as it haunted my dreams, its constant weight upon my aching mind dragging me slowly downwards into some Poe-esque pit of madness and despair. I understand that you have already put a good deal of time and effort into this iconic representation of your literary vision, and likely would not relish further efforts on a design with which you are already satisfied. If you were willing to reconsider, however, your more visually sensitive afficionados would be most grateful. Thanking you for your consideration, a sincere supporter of your endeavors, who must now take his leave to find an Advil and uncross his eyes, Fifthfiend |
Ah, it only "burns" because it's on the screen. The cover isn't in its physical form yet. Screens can be (and most of the time are) brighter than books.
Though, I think it looks good. Real good. Real good and comic-heroie. |
The eye burning yellow is important, I think it's one of Nuklear Man's powers.
Does the logo remind anyone else of the Screw Attack Metriod logo? |
Burning yellow is a power?
And yes, it looks like it is based off of Samus's logo. |
Im not fond of bright colors. but i dont really care whats on the cover of brians book. ill still read it.
|
I assure you it's your monitor or the field of bright white that surrounds the image when viewed in IE that does the most damage.
|
Well, let's test that theory.
http://www.nuklearpower.com/images/cover_final.png It's surrounded by black, and still kinda hurts the eyes. But yes, it's probably the monitor; I've seen book covers of a much brighter color that don't hurt IRL. [Edit]Besides, haven't you heard the ol' saying, "Can't judge a books by its cover"? Badd-dumm-dub, pssh![/Edit] |
i've never been a fan of the collor yellow, but just think of how easily you'll be able to spot the book at your local bookstore! most books in the sci-fi area are drab and dark, but this one will be like a beacon of collor that will draw people for miles and force them to close thier shades at night.
|
Well that cover is a bit bright, but it's propably the monitor. Hey, I don't suppose this book could be bought here in Finland?
|
Well, it should be bright since the main character is a solar identified archetype.
The book will be available in all major bookstore chains. Once published, if you can't find it, ask the store to order it for you. |
