Is White mage a man!?!?!?
ok right now my scanner is being a punk so i cant upload my proof but i can tell you where to find it
Ahem.. in the nintendo power Final fantasy Strategy guide on page 52 on the charactor transformation chart it says The White wizard is considerably stronger than HIS former self as a white mage. late in the game you may evenwish to equip him witha powerful sword. HIS best role, however, remains that of a protector. i submit this as evidence that the white mage from FF1 is in fact male .... do what you will with this info |
[SARCASM] Yeah, Nintendo Power guides, they NEVER make mistakes! What a GREAT source of information! [/SARCASM]
Seriously, the idiots at Nintendo power make guides constantly riddle with errors. They are often small mistakes, but they are there. In other words, don't take NP's guides seriously. Also, you may have never actually played FF1 (then again, you may have) but I know that I thought White Mage was a girl, as did everyone else I knew who saw the game. In conclusion, White Mage is a girl on the grounds that she looks like one :) God Bless, -S. Pasquella |
valid ... however
yes nintendo guides have there flaws however! this guide was made before they mass produced the guides for every game ... ever it even has art work drawn for it so there for it should be viewed as more accurate then the other guides .... DUDE! shes a DUDE!

Personally I think the gender was in question mostly because female adventurers weren't really in their heads when they thought about what sort of characters to use in their game. Dragon Warrior comics did a joke on this once... Give me time and I'll even find it for you.

Ok go find it i would like to see this

Should be moved to Video games. You can debate back and forth about RM and WM being male or female, but I agree with 8BT's representations of RM as a man and WM as a woman.
It's pretty clearly defined in the comic, at least. |
Here we go...
http://www.dragon-warrior.com/Comics/comics26.shtml It's amusing, though not really on topic. As I said though, I'm pretty sure it was simply because most games at that time had only male protagonists, which is one of the reasons Samus was such a big shock when she was revealed. Don't read too much into it. |
I thought it was left intentionally vague, so you could imagine the character however you wanted to. Early graphical constraints and such. Some would possibly be considered more masculine or feminine, but not out-and-out male or female.
It's probably just gender stereotyping, the idea that women are more gentle, pacifistic, and nurturing, that makes people inclined to think that the white mage is a female, even though the red mage has obviously long hair and a flamboyant style of dress from the very start. |
Yes, but as we now know, the Red Mage is just having a gender crisis. :p
|
sure, white mage in FF1 might be a guy. But in the comic its white mage from FF3. look closely, there is a difference.
