If we had a way-ass bigger forum I would agree with the subforum mod thing, it's the sort of thing that's a good idea when nobody can be expected to pay meaningful attention to all or even most of the forum. The shitty comic book forum I post on does subforum mods because they have like two or three hundred thousand active users or some insane shit like that and nobody short of Superboy Prime escaping the comics universe and coming back into our own to moderate forums at super-speed could handle all of that shit.

Or like me because I literally am The Supermod and am pretty much the best mod of things ever but shit, y'all knew that fo'ready.

I would almost agree except that it's probably hard to say exactly when a person is "good enough" for a full position. To be frank, almost all of the activity in the social forums are from regular members - there aren't going to be all that many things that require a mod to settle. It'd probably end up that you have a bunch of people as minimods of their little kingdoms, either getting fed up from not being able to use their power or trying so hard to use it that they interpret everything as an infraction.

Plus, if you make someone a mod, they need the little celebration wherein they play with their Mod CP for a bit, and if you do that for a bunch of people at once then IT'LL BE SHINEY ASSHOLE OR SHITFACE TIMES A THOUSAND.

Well, that's basically the point - you put people as sub-moderators for a little while to see if they're really up to it and then promote 'em to full mod after, say, a month or so.

But yeah, I can see the point that many of the subforums don't really have that much need for a dedicated moderator.

The issue with having temporary sub-mods is that 1) on a forum like this, there's actually the possibility that they won't be needed AT ALL during that month and 2) when the month is up, you suddenly have like 8 more mods and that means that the active userbase becomes something like 1/10th moderator.

I would think a sub-mod thing would be a bit more informal, ie Nik would have to be fairly active in Compy-land, but if he saw some shit going down in General, he could totally step in. Of course, if he wasn't around General at the time, no sweat off his back. More like areas of focus than strict borders.

I don't see that one working out, personally. People who were assigned 'areas of focus' could get all butthurt if someone else stepped in before they could in said assigned area. Could lead to a lot of dissension among the would-be mods.

Or they could just be adults and air their grievances civilly.

It could work.

You could always give each sub-mod several subforums. I.E. POS for News and General, CJ for Arts and Books, and Nikose for RP and Tech. Then you get half as many mods and they'd all probably maybe have some work some of the time.

To paraphrase. "That is Perfect. This is NPF." You're right, of course, Mesden, that it could go down like that. But humans will be, well, human.
