USA being concerned with massdestruction weapons?
 

This is what I don't get?!?! You go saying stuff like: "We are worried about this nations mass destruction weapons and how they will affect world peace."

Apparently the fact that you have more massdestruction weapons than any other nation and that you have attacked other nations (and so by disturbing wold peace) more times than any other country, doesen't count?

Is this going to be another USA bashing thread? Don't we have enough of those? I'm not happy with how things are going, but really...

Yeah it is a lil wierd. I'm a US citizen and all but I think the U.S. is over cautious now. Basically since September 11 (especially) we have had this complex with protecting ourselves. I think the current Pres Bush is trying to prevent another attack while our guard is down by going after anyone that might have the slightest intrest/capability to attack america. Thats just my viewpoint though

ok, what you are completely missing Oster, is the govts of who has the massively destructive weapons. In all of history, no 2 liberal democracies (modern democracies where everyone can vote) have ever gone to war with one another. what is the danger is not the weapons themselves nessasarily, its who has them. We have tons of nukes and such. this was part of the Mutually Assured Destruction defense that kept the cold war cold. Russia had a bunch too. what happened when the USSR collapsed? there was chaos. we dont fear russia having nukes(Russia now, not the USSR), we fear what might have happened to the ones they did have during that chaos, and if they were sold to some other country or terrorist organization.

France has nukes, UK has nukes. Is anyone worried of Chriac or Blair bombing them with nukes? no of course not. N.Korea has nukes now they say. Iran is trying to get them, as was saddam. Is anyone worried of ruthless dictators like Kim Jong Ill, Saddam Hussein, or the mullahocracy of Iran having increadibly destructive weapons? You bet your ass people are worried. Further more, we've recently uncovered a large black market being run, centered upon the former Pakistan nuke sciencist Abdul Qadeer Khan. they were selling information and technolgy to the highest bidder. are people scarred of terrorists having massively destructive weapons? hell yeah!

see, what you seem to not be getting is that all the countries and nations of the world are not equal. One nation is not as good as the next, one govt is not the same as another. Perhaps this comes from the practices of the UN where dictators are treated with the same power as democracies like USA, UK, France, Germany, Aulstralia. The UN where Sudan is practicing genocide and will keep its seat on the UN human rights commision. You see, we are the good guys. We cant let such massively destuctive weapons fall into the hands of the bad guys.

America, an almost complete democracy, has used Nuclear weapons in war. It is the only country to ever do so.

Why should we be less scared if America has 10,000, than if Kim has one?

Just because they're dictators and ruthless doesn't make them dumbasses. The only country they'd ever use a nuke on would be another country we don't normally care about. Now, since America got to use nukes once or twice, I don't think its fair to say that other countries use nukes once or twice.

Furthermore, I imagine that dictators would rather just sit on their nuke and say "nyah nyah nyah" and make the countries around them piss their pants. I can't really see a country actually using a nuclear weapon. I mean, unless you have them en masse, they do the same thing as carpet bombing the area.

Its dumb that America can have nukes and other countries can't. We are not the moral majority, we are not "better" than everyone else. I mean, if the mentality that "You're an oppressive regime so we're taking over" had been a policy of Britain's in the 1800's, America would be a colony again (Native Americans, yes?). This whole superiority complex my country has drives me up the wall.

can you imagine hostage takers sit on their hostages and say "nyah nyah nyah" just make the countries around them piss their pants? or can you imagine that, in order for anyone to take your blackmail seriously, you have to kill a few hostages?

and why does moral superiority bother you so much? Kim murders his own aids when they displease him. He kid naps movie stars for his own amusement. He lets his peopel starve in his quest for power. He kills politcla disidents.

Saddam used attack helicopters against villages. He filled mass graves with bodies. He killed his own son. he chemical bombed a whole city. his OWN city.

yeah, we're morally superior. I'm not sure why that thought bothers you so much. Unless you're a complete moral relativist and don't see any problem with Saddam bulldozing a pile of dead bodies into a mass grave.

What I don't get is what's going through all those Iraqi's peoples heads. Last year they're all like "Yeah democracy, whoo ho! so cool!" now this year, they attack soldier after soldier and tourist after tourist. And America is like "We're leaving already, ow!, WE'RE LEAVING, don't shoot!" and the Iraqi's still don't get the message. Someone needs to smack them for once. (BTW, i'm Canadian, and for once, I'm supporting america. What up wid dat!??")
