Iwata Asks: Handheld Zelda games (Bonus: amazing stories about Zelda 1)
http://www.nintendo.co.uk/NOE/en_GB/...15604.html#top
Did you know that the second quest in Zelda 1 exists solely because of a human mistake? Also, the truth behind the dungeon maps and a look at the original design documents of Zelda 1. Just jump over to the penultimate section to get to the meaty part, though the first pages are also really interesting with stuff about how Capcom wanted to remake the first Zelda for Game Boy Color and how Link's Awakening was going to be a port of A Link to the Past. |
ha, I just finished reading it. That some pretty amazing stuff. It's pretty cool how far ahead they seemed to be looking with the zelda planning.

Why does this not surprise me? I always knew Miyamoto was an eccentric, but damn, he's a Magnificent Bastard to boot!

I find it strange that the interviewer didn't know Chomps and Goombas and Kirby appeared in Link's Awakening. Although I might be the only guy around who thought that Link's Awakening was fucking rad and still remembers most of the game by heart.
That was super cool seeing all the hand-drawn stuff about Zelda and Mario. The marker-drawn Zelda map was a real treat. Quote:

wait so the original Zelda had like, a hardmode?
wait wait wait. wait... fuck |
Wow this was a pretty interesting read. I love reading development docs and notes. It's fun to see how your favorite game came to be.

Only like halfway related: I remember the Iwata Asks for Smash Bros Brawl. That was funtimes.

Not knowing about the Second Quest may very well be pardonable if you haven't played the first game. Like if you got started on the series with A Link To The Past or something. It's more like not knowing about the - world in Super Mario Bros. |
Most exciting part of that was seeing the old sketches of the game before it was made. That was just cool.

Cloudbush is mentioned! Also mind-blowing: underwater Mario is just a reskinned Balloon Fight. |
