Nintendo May Announce New Console at GDC

Obviously this is far from confirmed, but I can't help but feel this is too soon, if it is true.

I'm also considering that it might just the a new version of the same console, like the DSi. Nintendo supposedly copyrighted the name Zii, so it would almost vaguely make sense.

"The Nintendo Zii! Now featuring controllers you can afford you middle class son of a bitch!"

More like "The Nintendo Zii! Now featuring an online system worth a damn, and maybe a patch for Smash Bros Brawl or something!" Because honestly right now Brawl is the only Wii game I give 2 shits about.

...well, you're actually missing on quite a LOT of stuff then.

I doubt Nintendo would launc a new console now... the "Zii" and "Wii HD" Rumors have been around for some time. They have a new Zelda coming out for the Wii, new Mario Galaxy, still a bunch of decent games coming this year... it would make little sense to launch a new platform right now when they are still leaders in sales across the board.

Yeah, the Wii's still going way too strong right now for a new console to be in any way feasible.

That's how it always is.
 

Actually, if memory serves, sales of the Wii itself have been dropping pretty dramatically of late. Plus announcing it now would just mean it's coming out in two or three years, not this year, unless it is just an upgraded version instead of a whole new console. If it is an upgrade, those very games you mentioned would still be selling for that console, as well as the existing Wii.

Nintendo announces new consoles a few years out from release. Then it's a slow release of information building up what it's going to be like.

This better be marketed towards hardcore gamers and hardcore gamers only.

Can we please not do this in like every Nintendo thread ever. Seriously at this point its been elevated almost to the point of discrimination against anyone that doesn't self identify as a hardcore gamer. On top of that it is an utterly meaningless distinction which is little more than cover for what appears to be the sentiment that all games ever made should be of a certain type a person likes and damn everyone else.

On topic I'm not exactly sure where Nintendo can go that's really that new but they always seem to find something.

"hardcore" gamers bitched to no end about everything Nintendo ever did, and once nintendo handily proved that "hardcore" gamers weren't needed for a successful gaming console, they come crawling back like an abusive boyfriend who realized the woman was the one who actually got shit done in the relationship.
