Gargoyles

The animation, not the beast.

I know the main character is called Xanatos (or something), but that's about it. Anyone care to tell me more?

IHateMakingNames 05-08-2004 06:45 PM

Oh, it's a great show. Xanatos is the best.

Though, Xanatos isn't the main character. Goliath is. Xanatos is the main bad guy for a while. Xanatos is human by the way, Goliath is a gargoyle.

I haven't seen this show in forever (Anyone know if it comes on TV anywhere?), but it was pretty good. Basically in Medieval times, the bad person casts a curse to get the Gargoyles to get them out of the way, and they can't be freed again until they are raised in a catle above the clouds. Modern Day, quasi-bad guy Zanatos does indeed put the gargoyles on the top of his skyscraper, knowing it will free them to help him in his plans.

That is a really bad short explenation of the basic plot, but I haven't seen it in years literally, so that's all I remember.

11:30 P.M. and 12:00 A.M., Toon Disney.

And that is just an explanation of the first two episodes...

Yeah, but it is the origin. I know that in one episode it goes back in time and explains what they were like in the Medieval days, and how they got cursed, and that basically their purpose was to be bossed around by Xanatos, and that they turned to stone every day. There was Goliath (Leader), Demona (Evil hot chick gargoyle), the red gargoyle (Witty and quick), the blue big guy (Slow, strong, and hungry), and the older gargoyle (Wise-ish older gargoyle), along with Bronx, the dog gargoyle.

Like I said, I haven't seen it in years...

You forgot the best Gargoyle, Lexington (The small yellow one without wings).

Krylo 05-08-2004 07:06 PM

Lexington had wings, they were just spread from his arms to his side, and he was the brilliant one. Yes, Gargoyles is a kick ass show. It also got into Celtic mythology and the fae for awhile with Avalon and what have you.

IHateMakingNames 05-08-2004 07:09 PM

I know he had those web armpits, but not wings like the rest of the gargoyles. He looked more like a flying squirrel.

its also on foxfamily, or abc family, or what ever the heck they are this week. In any case they are on 11:00am saturday if I am not mistaken

Zweihander 05-08-2004 09:47 PM

Yeah, the show's on Saturday and (maybe) Sunday mornings, for most of the morning on what I still call the Family Channel. It was a great show back when, and still is. I just have trouble watching something that I already know the ending to. I hope they forgot about the short-lived second series, which was all about thinly-veiled anti-racsim. I mean, once the world knew of the Gargoyles, it was only natural to hate/hunt 'em down. Of course, it also removed the whole "OMG can't let them find us, must stay a secret" thing that added more drama and interest to the series. I mean, what's next? Goliath gets a job at a burger joint?
