I'm hoping that this game will finally have a dark type gym. Seriously, no dark gyms in 5 generations. I mean, some of them are represented by Elite 4 members, but it doesn't feel the same (especially the reward of getting a new TM).

Hell, Dark type needs to get at least 1 single move (preferably non-signature) that has 100 base power or more.

The type could really use some love...

Then again, it would be kinda odd to have dark type thrives when B/W has SO many new bug and Fighting types, which kinda would put a damper on the usefulness of dark types in that region. >_>

akaSM 04-20-2012 02:41 PM

What I thought upon examining the male trainer.

That's a face...is that a palm tree on his head? The design wants to tell me something...

At least he doesn't have a horrible beret or something :P

Locke cole 04-20-2012 03:01 PM

Well, if the right guy uses Beat Up, that's effectively 100+ power.

RobinStarwing 04-20-2012 03:02 PM

I thought the girl looked like Sailor Moon personally. :D

Well, technically Payback and Assurance can also do 100 power under certain circumstances too, but that doesn't mean it should be the only type that has to jump through several hoops to get base power moves that other types get fairly easily. (I could also say the same for ghost types, since the only move above 80 power is a legendary signature move)

Would also be neat if we got some more type variations. Would like to see a Water/Bug type that isn't Surskit. Poor pokemon had a unique typing but loses it upon evolution.

Flarecobra 04-20-2012 03:52 PM

Also, Foul Play, 95 power, and it improves the higher the attack rating on the enemy is.

And I agree.. like there should be a fire/poison type, for example.

Hell, make some more fire-types in general. >_> Seriously, out of the 48 fire types, 23 are either legendary or starters. Means you got 25 that are even relatively common. 25, out of over 600.

Menarker 04-20-2012 05:44 PM

Foul Play is neat in general, especially if your own pokemon is sacrificing attack stats to boost its other stats, but relying on your opponent's choice of pokemon is always risky. (Although I would love it on an Umbreon.)

I'd personally question the value of a fire/poison type, given that the only type that Poison is useful against (Grass) Fire is good against too. Poison also doesn't protect fire types from any of its weaknesses and visa versa (And even gives it a disasterous quad weakness to ground). And the status effects compete for the same slot, since they both do damage over time, but one wants to pump damage more over time and the other wants to reduce the foe's attack stat at the same time. (I keep thinking of it as a sentient cigar)

Then again, we DO have weaksauce typing pokemon like Golem (two common quad weaknesses) and Parasect (5x weakness to Fire with Dry Skin ability!). So I guess something like that wouldn't be out of the picture. I just imagine it wouldn't be terribly competitive. Although immunity to both Burn and Poison is a nice touch, I suppose.

Hmmm, more type variations for electric types would be good, given almost all the electric types are single type.
One or two more pure flying type that isn't legendary wouldn't hurt though. :3

And yeah, I always found fire types to be kinda limited in choices. Doesn't help that so many of them starters are fire/fighting. (All in a row to boot! It's like one of the developers is getting off on creating these types)

Hell, I would like a Fire/Water pokemon. Just make it a "Geyser" pokemon. Capable of both Eruption AND/OR Water Spout? SOLD! Fire help against grass, Water helps against rock/ground, Quad resist to Ice, Steel and Fire, able to use either Rain Dance or Sunny Day (at the expense of the other half of its type), and a very nice diversity of super effective targets that doesn't overlap. Although given its nature of being super hot, it might be one of the few if only water pokemon not be to able to learn ice moves...

Alternatively, if we want to get creative, we could do a Fire/Grass type akin to "Moses' Burning Bush". Sunny Day boost fire type and Solar Beam (and maybe an ability like Chlorophyll or Solar Power which would regain lost health from grass's drain moves). Typewise grass helps against water, ground and rock while fire helps against ice and bug while hitting the steel type that grass can't easily handle. Also quad resist grass. Sleep or Stun Powder can be quite useful if one would rather forgo the burning statuses.

Sounds like a pokemon that Scald would be perfect for.

Plus, it's not like there arn't a bunch of exothermic aquatic creatures out there that they could draw insperation from.

RobinStarwing 04-20-2012 07:34 PM

I still want to see a Dark/Psychic Type...an Eevee evolution that happens during an eclipse would be perfect for this!

Shyria Dracnoir 04-20-2012 08:51 PM

We still need Eveeolutions for a few more types anyways. So far we have Normal, Fire, Water, Lightning, Psychic, Dark, Grass and Ice. That still leaves Bug, Flying, Dragon, Ghost, Poison and Fighting.

POS Industries 04-20-2012 09:02 PM

To make Eevee evolve into a ghost type, you take the evolution stone and just bash it over the head until it stops moving.

Um POS, I think Pokemon is trying to NOT encourage animal abuse but I could be wrong after all it is cockfighting (literally if you consider Blaziken).
....*inserts awkward silence*...

Cue the dancing penis!

Menarker 04-22-2012 03:23 PM

What might also be neat is giving Poison type a legendary. Since they are the only type without one.

A non-exhaustive list of typings and their representatives:
Normal: Arceus (technically, he could be other types plates, but normal is default). Gigagigas is another if you want a more stable option.
Fire: Several, starting with Moltres and ending with Reshiram.
Water: Kyogre, Suicune and Palkia immediately pops to mind.
Electric: Several, starting with Zapdos and ending with Zekrom.
Grass: Celebi and Shaymin immediately pops to mind.
Ice: A couple including Articuno and Kyurem, who will be more prominent next game.
Ground: Groudon and Landorus comes to mind.
Rock: Terrakion
Steel: Jirachi and Cobalion comes to mind.
Fighting: The entire Musketeer group.
Psychic: Who could forget Mewtwo/Mew among several others?
Flying: Several, the most famous probably being the elemental birds of Red/Blue and the two mascots of Gold/Silver. Props goes to Tornadus for being the only pure flying type as well.
Bug: Genesect at least.
Dark: Darkrai
Ghost: Giratina.
Dragon: The Cosmic Trio and the Tao Trio.

As you can see, every other type has at least one representative, although Poison doesn't have one. Would be neat if that changed for the next one as well.

DarkDrgon 04-22-2012 10:32 PM

So, my friends and I are doing some weird HG/SS challenge thing. I don't know the name, but basically it goes...

release/box your starter as soon as possible. The first 6 pokeymans you catch are your team. You must have all six slots full by the 5th badge, and your starter released before getting your first.

my Idea so far is to grab a Geodude or pidgey right from the start and adopt it as my starter. spam the game corner and safari zone to get some of my favorites, and grab an evee to evolve into whatever type I need to balance out my team.

Any standout advice for this?

Ecks 04-23-2012 05:45 AM

Yeah, for one you can't release your starter. Believe me, I've tried.

DarkDrgon 04-23-2012 06:56 AM

It'll go right into storage then

So, they revealed some new things about the supporting cast, including character redesigns.

I have to admit, Bianca actually looks cute in glasses.

And Cheren is now a gym leader. N is still missing. And Bianca is Prof. Juniper's assistant.

More information is found here. Spoilers beyond link.

Locke cole 05-12-2012 02:41 PM

An early, Normal-Type Gym leader, at that. Hurm...

RobinStarwing 05-16-2012 11:35 PM

You think that's something...try this trailer.

Locke cole 05-16-2012 11:45 PM

Makes me sad. Sad to know that the real anime doesn't have animation quite that good, or a protagonist that isn't Ash.

But yeah, that was great. I could watch that fight scene over and over again, or just stare at that spinning Magneton.

In in-game news, I'm building a team around Slaking. Seriously. It involves Cofagrigus, an Eject Button, and Pursuit. Now, I'm just building teammates to support him against the stuff that he has trouble with.

Pokemon Black and White 2 - New Trailer video and Moar Pokemanz talk!

Right of the bat, here is the new trailer

So, of course i went to and made my own version with less generic guitar rifs and more awesome.

If the anime were like that i wouldn't mind watching it...

Also, this video seems to imply that the game will have some animated cutscenes. Could it possible be that the Pokemon franchise is... trying to change? LE GASP!

Flarecobra 05-21-2012 10:25 PM

You know, for that trailer... it looked less like ice, and more like crystal.

And it seems the male PC is gonna be the canon character.
That poor seviper....*sadface*

akaSM 05-22-2012 01:27 AM

Well, they could always do what they did with Pokémon Chronicles, and I would LOVE that...catching the show and actually watching it is a completely different problem, college! :argh:

RobinStarwing 06-03-2012 02:27 PM

New Trailers out in Japan. Skyla is still Gym Leader(awesome!) and Ghestis is still a horrible power-hungry asshole of a monster. Oh and N reappears!

New Trailer 1
New Trailer 2

Edit: And also

From Serebii.net: "Two new features of Black 2 & White 2 have been revealed by a promotional pamphlet posted on a Japanese Blog. First is the Fes Mission, which has you partake in missions with friends, in a similar manner to the EntraLink Missions in Black & White and get prizes based upon your score. This is done via the wireless features.

Second is Join Avenue, which is part of a shopping centre which you can build with various friends via connecting with them. It's currently unknown to what extent but there is an image of putting a stand in the shop. Other players will be able to visit your shop while you can visit theirs ."

Got Pokemon Conquest yesterday, extremely simple for a strategy game, but decidedly good. By far the best spinoff pokemon game.
