Anywho, my SoulSilver FC is:

3567-3914-2442

Trainer name is Julford, but you could call me Sally and I'd still show up :P

EDIT: I'll be available about an hour from now.

Alrighty. I don't know when I'll be on, but I'll add you. I gotta find my friend code and when I do, I'll post it up here.

/edit: Okay for reasons unexplained, I cannot seem to get my DS online with my wireless router so I may be a while.
/edit x2: Okay seriously this is fucking weird. Anyone wanna give me a hand trying to get this thing online please?

As I'm breeding pokes for Mauve, I could give you a baby Turtwig or Mudkip (Because I herd u *is shot*), who both have evolutions with Ground-type moves. Just remember that ground is weak to water and that makes both of those guys neutral to Empoleon's main attacks.

Also, it's D/P. Shinx and it's evolutions are all electric, which are handy for Empoleon.

Yet sadly, their movepool is limited to physical attacks if you want to go off their higher base attack stat.

Can't go wrong with Pikachu/Raichu. Just slap a light ball on the Pikachu.

Alternatively, Magnemite/Magneton/Magnezone.

I've found my Jolteon to be more than reliable in that regard, as well.

Also, Julford: Any chance I could snag a couple starters from you, as well? Treecko and Piplup, specifically. A friend of mine is furiously dex filling and I figured I'd see what I could dig up to give him a hand.

Daimo Mac, The Blue Light of Hope 04-27-2010 08:02 PM

Okay so I can't get an Eevee until after I get the National Pokedex, so I still need a Dark Type.

Also I may grab myself the Magnemite because according to the wiki, it has the most resistances and one of the highest Special Attacks

That'll be fine, I don't mind passing out breedable pokes (So long as you don't care about gender/nature/etc.); I even found my copy of Platinum, so I'll be able to get Gen 3 starters for everyone as well.

Right now I have one of every starter except the Gen 3 pokes, who I'll breed for new ones tomorrow. If anyone is online now and wants to trade within the next 2-3 hours of this post, lemme know. [EDIT: And I'm going to bed now >.>]

Mac, I'm not sure what could be causing the issue, assuming you did all the steps right. I'll run through them real quick, as it's always good to double-check:
1. Start the game.
2. Get to the picture of your legenedary pokemon, where the game displays your pokemon version.
3. Go to the menu with options continue, new game, etc.
4. Click on the "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connestion Settings"
5. Set up the Wi-Fi for your DS the same way you would for your computer, including passwords.
6. Head downstairs in any Pokemon Center, and talk to the middle nurse to enter the Wi-Fi room.

Hopefully this works. If/When it does, I'll make sure I breed you an Eevee or three for you to make use of, too :P

OH! Something I just thought of: If you are using some sort of service that requires a password after gaining access to the internet, the DS can't do that and won't be able to connect properly (I normally can't connect during the week because I live on campus, where they prompt you for a password once you open a program like Firefox or IE).

EDIT: Also, I changed my Friend Code up above, due to technical issues with my DS >.>

You've got a handful of alternative choices, murkrow is probably the earliest dark type you can find, but if you don't want a Dark/Flying, you can get the Poison/Dark Stunky early on too.

Why did I not think of that, first and foremost?

I need to stop using my Zapdos so much...

And believe it or not, it's EV'd, has a great nature, and it knows Heat Wave. Move over, Jolteon.

Alright. What route do I find Stunky? I am gonna opt out on the Murkrow because I already have myself a good Flying type in Staravia unless you can suggest other wise.

Also what is a good way to evolve my Budew. Like how do I get the happiness factor up?

Dunno bout the Stunky, as far as Budew is concerned...

1) Vitamins. Yeah, they add ten EVs per vitamin, but as long as you're selective on the ones you use (and you have the cash to spare) go for it.

2) Veilstone City has a girl in a house that will give your Pokemon a massage. This will boost the happiness rating, and you will get one seemingly random Accessory for your Fashion Case. You can do this once per day.

3) I think Rare Candies also boost happiness.

4) Have your Pokemon hold a Soothe Bell. This doubles the happiness gain of each and every method.

5) Feed your Pokemon Poffins it likes. Check the second page under Summary to see what it likes (at the bottom, as seen on this page)

6) Lastly, just walking around with it in your party gives it small boosts to happiness.

After you hit max happiness (You can check with the Happiness Checker app that you get in Solaceon Town's Pokemon Center; two hearts shows high happiness, two HUEG hearts is max happiness) you just need to raise your Pokemon's level by one and Presto Change-o! You'll have a Roselia. Roserade after Shiny Stone.

BloodyMage 04-28-2010 06:28 PM

You don't actually have to get it to max happiness, just 220.

Stunky is on routes 206, 214 and 221.

Wooper is a poor man's Barboach. Croagunk, while 4x weak to Psychics, has some good moves, and isn't a bad Fighting type. Also, I added in a bit about poffins in that last post I made.

Grass Fashion Designer is so smug I want to punch him.
Fire Sprinting Pig is so retarded I want to punch him.
Water Gingerbread Man is so ugly I want to punch him.

The starter is getting the fuck out of my party as soon as I get a seventh Pokeyman.

The female trainer design is the best of all Gens so far.
The male trainer design is better than Gen III's and IV's.

Token 05-12-2010 10:38 AM

Tyra Banks Treecko is smug as FUCK, BURNING BACON is so fucking adorable I might not evolve it, and I have no idea what the fuck that Water monstrosity is. Polar Bear? Snowman? Crappy Piplup redesign?

Also, digging the trainer designs.

Thanks to /v/, I now know what I will be calling BURNING BACON: Larfleeze. FUCK YES.

Daimo Mac, The Blue Light of Hope 05-12-2010 11:00 AM

I like the Water Panda thing. The Grass starter doesn't really do it for me and Fire Pig is okay I guess. But I do like Water Panda.

Donomni 05-12-2010 11:38 AM

I think the water starter is an otter.

Also, there goes any idea of an older protagonist this time around(That and the concept art I saw and posted was either unused or totally bogus).

bluestarultor 05-12-2010 11:46 AM

I dunno, I think they're at least as good as the Gen IV starters. And better than Gen III.

Basically, I think they're okay and they fit with the newer Pokemon style. Could be worse.

According to Corocoro, these protagonists are older than any of the previous ones.

As for the starters, SMUGLEAF (Tsutaja) is a "Grass Snake," PIGNITION (Pokabu) is a "Fire Pig," and IDONTEVEN (Mijumaru) is a "Sea Otter." I'm pretty much torn between SMUGLEAF and BURNING BACON at this point. They both seem like complete Bros.

greed 05-12-2010 11:50 AM

Damn those trainers have got big hair. Guy looks like he should be in some unshaven indie rock band and the girl looks like she should be working at a beauty salon or something. Both are good though, unlike beret boy from DPP. On the pokemon, I like the fire pig, though the water otter thing is cool too. And yeah tree lizard looks ridiculously smug so not using that unless it gets a evolution way better than it's first stage like Sceptile and Torterra, or the others get really lame ones, like Meganium.

So do we know anything about the region like what part of Japan it's based on or what kind of environment it has? That usually gives some details about what pokemon to expect.

Melfice 05-12-2010 11:52 AM

It's not a panda, Mac.
It's got flippers and... a beaver-like tail?

I'm leaning towards a platypus, really, but the head doesn't make sense.
Are we sure these are the official starters, 'cause really guys? These guys are UGLY.

EDIT:

I dunno fire pig looks pretty great really. Only water otter looks really damn weird but I think they were going for a sort of snowman look. Wonder if it will have water/ice typing?

Also I've got no problem with unshaven, currently am very much unshaven myself, tend only to clip it to stop chinbeard forming. Also very much in need of a hair cut, but I'm reluctant to go as it currently keeps my ears warm pretty well.

According to the scan, the first Generation V games will be set in the region known as 「イッシュ」 Isshu, which is quite a distance away from all previous regions. The magazine scan implies that the region is a foreign place that must be traveled to by boat or airplane. Legendary Pok?mon reports that a new location titled 「ヒウンシティ」Hiun City will possibly be in the games, though this has yet to be confirmed via scan.

People are speculating that it's gonna be China or Northeastern America.

I think it's cute. And besides, otters DO have rather big noses. They're also fucking awesome.

Yeah otters are great even if they do stink to high hell. Just think that snowman/otter thing there is over designed.

That sounds pretty cool, I was wondering where'd they go as they'd covered all the major regions of Japan I was familiar with.

Azisien 05-12-2010 12:23 PM

If they don't have proper elemental environments in this game I am gonna flip a table!

Julford Hajime 05-12-2010 02:35 PM

Man, you guys are missing the obvious connection here. They practically made Bidoof a starter.

But yeah I like the Grass, Water, Fire starters in that order. All I'm asking for is a Grass starter that is a decent Special Attacker, is that too much to ask?

PS: No Sceptile doesn't count.

Yeah, Sceptile doesn't count because his best attack is PHYSICAL. Totally lame.

Venusaur WAS a decent Special Attacker... before Gen II and IV made it fubar.

Alakazam, maybe, but most other Psychics were typically tolerable. Of note was Exeggutor, Slowbro, and Starmie, who were pretty much the kings of competetive play.

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/277.png By far my #1, hence the gigantic FUCK YOU in the Emerald LP thread. Love you Ecks :P

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/254.png Y'know, as much as I hated 3rd gen for some of their lazy pokemon designs (Hariyama comes to mind), there were some legitimately badass pokes. Sceptile and Swellow are prime examples.

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/37.png Back when Pokemon first came out, my friends and I all argued over who's favorite was the best. Out of all the 'Mons in the show, Vulpix stood out for me. Why? Hell if I know.

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/335.png While not as awesome as Vulpix, Zangoose is still a favorite. He fared better than Groudon in the Elite Four, and they were about the same level!

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/35.png If you've played Pokemon Stadium, you know why I love Clefairy. If not, you're welcome.

Those're my top five. Despite that nothing but Gens 1 and 3 being there, 2 and 4 are my favorite generations of games. Go figure.

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/286.png - I call mine shroom puncher...too bad he really doesnt have any hands>.<
http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/292.png - I'm also a fan of this guy. Some of the ubers he can completely destroy because of Wonderguard. My roommate hates when I pull him or shroom puncher out.

Look a floating jellyfish(?) that casts magichttp://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...irtleSquad.jpg Because nothing beats a team of fire-fighting turtles.

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b8...mingo_face.gif Because Domingo belongs in lists that have nothing to do with him.

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/151.png It can learn any TM/HM and it's adorable.

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/484.png It's a ghost and it will take over your favorite appliances. There is no place to hide.

This is why I do not like Swellow. Because he is the most awesome Normal/Flying EVA.

My favorite, but then You Should Know This Already.

Sea serpents rule, and Gyarados is no exception.

There's a reason I named mine Thor.

I also like Rotom and Slaking.

If I hadn't received my plush Dratini all those years ago, I wouldn't be the horrible person I am today. I'd be a different horrible person. Here's to you, Dratini. You tha best. The very best.

If I could have a team of any pokemon I want, damn their effectiveness or availability, it would be:

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/medi...Spr_4p_395.png

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/medi...Spr_4p_452.png I like scorpions.

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/medi...Spr_4d_472.png Specially if they can fly.

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/medi...Spr_4p_475.png

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/medi...Spr_4h_219.png It's a snail that's on fire yo.

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/medi...Spr_4d_478.png She covers her mouth, no need to be rude just because she froze you and stole your soul.

Although I must admit, beating my opponents to death with Magikarp melee is a highly attractive alternative.

I'm currently considering combining the pokemon game discussion threads (not including the NPF Pokemon League and LPs, though seriously guys THREE pokemon LPs? Are you fucking kidding me on this?) into one general pokemon omnibus, but that's a lot of work and I'll worry about it later.

That said, Houndoom. Haunter has the old school gen 1 nostalgia love but so many years later I've really got to hand it to the fire-breathing hellhound on this one.

Just posting to say that a Pok?mon megathread may be for the best. Or a Pok?mon subforum in Games. Whichever.

EDIT: Also shiney you apparently need to get on that unicode thing or something.

Double EDIT: No mention of http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x.../wobbuffet.jpg? Seriously? Mike is sad.

The last panel is actually my desktop right now. It is a surprisingly effective discussion starter.

"Why is your desktop pink"
"Do you see that big fukkin' sea serpent?"
"...Yeah."
"That's why."

What is hat from Mike McC?

Flarecobra 05-13-2010 10:02 PM

Articuno, simply because I thought it was pretty. And kicked Lance's ass in Gen1.
Seviper. Was my speedy physical attacker in Emerald, along with Sharpedo.
Gardevior. Acted as my speedy special attacker, and was the one I tought to use Shockwave.
Steelex. Used him as some good defense, until I got...
Heatran. Took a lot to take it down sometimes. Resistant to a lot of stuff, and excellent defense all around.

That's about all I can really think of at the moment.

Loyal 05-13-2010 10:04 PM

Pick either one. They both work.

Pokemon General is NOW!

I have merged the following threads:

"FFFFFFFYESSS POKEMANZ"
"And while the forum was down, Pokemon Black and White were announced..."
"Favorite Pokemons"

This is now your one-stop shop for all your pokeymanz discussion needs. Thank you and enjoy.

http://www.pokebeach.com/scans/ex-te...-tyranitar.jpg

One of the only shinies I've caught in Gen 4 was a Larvitar. It's now a LV100 Tyranitar. Named her Terri.

Drownball-Champ 05-15-2010 11:41 AM

What a coincidence, the only shiny I've gotten on my own this Gen is a Larvitar I hatched.

Token 05-15-2010 11:50 AM

I also have a shiny Tyranitar. I have a Torterra, Metagross, Staraptor, and Breloom as well. He's from Ruby though, so I guess it doesn't count.
