Brink

Ok, this one came out of nowhere. It looks like Mirror's Edge had some influence in the genre, because this one wants to give us parkour with a (hopefully) decent gameplay aspect.

Although, the trailer for it is kinda ghettofabulous, I'll look more into it when they have the game running.

They have the game running, there's a 3 part walkthrough of one of the levels with the security forces escorting a mini tank thing into a slum. There's also a vid showing the insanely detailed character customisation.

But yeah, been keeping an eye on this one recently, it's starting to look really good.

I'm not as informed, is this connected at ALL to Mirror's Edge's studio?

Not likely, seeing as this is by Splash Damage and ME was EA. It's not exactly the same system either, it just looks the same.

With ME you had the jump button and the crouch button, which allowed you to leap over obstacles and slide beneath them when running. Brink though uses something called SMART. Basically you hold down 1 button when you want to do something like leap over a railing and when you run up to it you automatically transition. To slide you need to be running and then look towards the ground as you hit the SMART button, and the system works out what you want to do. To climb you look up to where you want to climb and SMART instantly makes you climb up without breaking stride.

It's simple, but looks to be quite effect.

EDIT; Some gameplay footage. That's the first of those 3 vids I mentioned.

It's too bad they couldn't have three factions instead of two. Judging from how the story looks though, I kinda wanna be part of the Resistance. Underdogs are always cool and the very fact that they've been subjugated to the horrid conditions means it'd be great to see them win one.

I think you can switch between both factions/stories anyway. The character creation vid shows the guy switching between 2 characters.

I haven't seen enough of either side to say which I prefer, but the security guys have some cool looking weapons, so I'm siding with them at the moment. Hopefully both sides get some different weapons, even if the differences are only cosmetic.
