Brian, could we talk? (Re: Spriting & Sprites)

Basically, I'm not sure if its the fact that you switched e-mail addresses, and I no longer have any clue where to send e-mail, or its just the fact that you're ignoring me. Anyway, I'd like to talk to you regarding sprites & such, and wouldn't mind actually conversing with you.

Maybe I'm just reading a message that isn't there, but I get the feeling that you want to get beyond my input, and that's fine. Still, as a last favor to the comic, I'd at least like to organize the sprites I have, and send you a burned CD.

Maybe by organizing it, you'll be able to find things like Akbar's side view sprite I created, when you need it.

nah he's just busy, he hasn't answered a pm i sent him either but he will. it's just that right now he's getting ready to go somewhere for a week

shiney 05-09-2004 08:10 AM

I'm sure bob is aware of that Balsac, he's been spriting for Brian for years now.

Bob, if Brian doesn't beat me to it I'll direct him to this topic for you.

It's' nothing personal, it's just...

A) I never know what new stuff I'm going to need until the panel before it, and it'd be rather unfair to expect you to work like that. And...

B) I get over 100 genuine e-mails a day which are hiding within about 150 - 200 spam ones. It's hard for me to keep regular contact with anyone.

Sky Warrior Bob 05-09-2004 04:51 PM

Well, it might be helpful at your end to set up your e-mail program to filter your mail to some extent, with folders & junk. I know Outlook Express has something which does this under the Tools menu. Heck, with a little effort you might at least get those Penis enlargement e-mails to head directly into your trash from now on.

As for me keeping tabs on what you want, that's hardly been an issue, has it? From my point of view, your input could be helpful, certainly, but it isn't like I've ever gotten much. At best, I just tried to watch the comic, and come up with stuff that I thought would be needed, and you've either used it or you didn't.

I have entirely too much time on my hands admittedly, but I've worked out a system in which I can churn out most sprites in a few minutes to a half hour, so it isn't like I'm burning the candle at both ends. So it isn't a question of difficulty, as its become rather simple and somewhat entertaining little hobby for myself, although I won't die if you choose to basically take over your own sprite production.

Whatever, although if you choose to get beyond my input, I strongly suggest you at least have me mail you a burnt CD w/ all my stuff organized as best I can. I mean, I sometimes cringe to think what sort of haphazard system you've worked out with my multiple various sprite updates over the years. Or even if you have everything.

Well whatever, and I do know/have the mailing address that you used to accept donnations at, if it comes to sending a burned CD...

well since that's the case could i go ahead and ask my question here too then?

shiney 05-11-2004 01:15 AM

Probably be easier to just ask it rather than ask to ask it. :B

Anarchy_Balsac 05-11-2004 03:38 AM

well i wanted to ask if i could take ask black mage to flash on newgrounds. since that would be taking it to another site i figured i'd better ask first. it'd be much better that way because it would eliminate all the:

Q: <videogame, or stuff that doesn't exist in BM's realm question>

A: STOP IT BEFORE I DESTROY YOU

stuff, and i could only answer good questions. plus i feel it would be more entertaining in flash mode

Sky Warrior Bob 05-11-2004 05:28 AM

People make 8-bit related Flashes all the time, as well as put them up on Newgrounds. I hardly think that you need Brian's permission to do the same. But if you want to wait until you get the word on high, that's your own preogrative.

Brian, I still wouldn't mind a reply to my last posting. Admittedly, you plan to head out in the next few days (/week?), and I could wait for a delayed response. However, I still think we could work something out, either by you setting up your e-mail to do some sorting (maybe state on the webiste that any e-mail w/out NP in the subject line will be immediately sent to trash? And maybe sending regular names, Meddros, me & the 8-Bit Flashes on Newgrounds, to a special folder. Plus, NP Art for sending directly to your 'Eye Candy' folder?).

If you don't feel like setting up your e-mail, I have two other options for you. One, could you start up a thread, which I could only post too? Admittedly, this would open up all of my sprites to the public, but that can't be helped.

The other option is to send you a burned CD, with an attempt to organize. I *COULD* get your address (as find out what the D stands for) through this website I found (not to mention what I could find out through the whole package deal), but it costs 10.00 and I'm not sure you're worth that. I also have the old donnation address, but I'm not sure if that still even works.

No one needs my permission to do Flash thingies based on my work. I figure you guys are nice enough to put me or the website somewhere in the credits and that's good enough for me.

As for Bob: Or you could send a single zip file with everything. The problem with organization has been infrequent releases with inconsistent or too consistent naming (all sheets called stuff.gif or what have you) between the files. A single zip with one character/set per sheet and each sheet with a specific name would solve all my problems. Or if that's too much of a hassle, shove them all into a single zip file and I can give them "proper" filenames when they get saved.

All this talk about finding my address and "so much more" honestly sounds a bit too stalker-y. Deep breaths, serenity now, zip file :P
