Jos did some quick changes to his map.

http://img2.imageshack.us/img2/7935/lastscan8.jpg

"Better?"

(More walls and archers in middle so more killing before they reach the units, more white mages for those lone fighters in the middle bottom)

(Edit) - Send those Fighters way back their to the South. If any side needs support, they go there. Also, Jos and the 5 Avians will be flying around and telling where help is needed.

Instead of modifying mine I’ll just change yours, my corrections are in green. Using the same amount of building material for the main defenses, and a little more grunt work digging, i can do this.

As you can see, i kept the palisades, but their construction will be secondary. And only if we have the time. They will be effective even if they break up the undead formation.

You will also notice i added some towers to your picket up north. These I will call, what else? Picket towers. I will have men hold up in them and watch the surrounding area for any undead movement. They will also be used as a fall back location for any patrols. As for all the excess fighters and dragoons freed up, the fighters will go to walls with pikes. The dragoons will patrol the perimeter for any stray undead, and generally watch our backs. The avians will have two missions; run messages and patrol for undead.

As Kyle attacked those trees, he reflected back on why he was with these people to begin with.

Kyle opened the door to find a woman lay on his deathbed, coughing and weazing.
"Come, Kyle," he said. "I've been waitng for you, and I don't have much time."
"What is it, Aunt?" Kyle asked as he took a seat next to the woman.
"I have something to tell you, about your uncle. We decided it would be best not to tell you until we both were dying. Something that the next of kin needs to know."
Kyle's aunt and uncle had never had any children, because his aunt was barren. So, by all means, Kyle was the next of kin in the family's bloodline.
"But, as you know, your uncle passed away five years ago." She coughed and wheezed some more. "And we didn't want to tell you sooner, because of our fear."
"Fear?" Kyle asked.
"Fear that you would become like your uncle."
Kyle quirked a brow; he never knew Uncle to be a bad man. "Was something wrong?"
"He was cursed," she wheezed. "Cursed by the sword he used to win many battles."
"You mean Einlanzer?" Kyle nodded towards the weapon on the wall.
"Yes." She coughed heavily. "You see, Einlanzer is an evil blade."
"Why would you want to wait until you're on your deathbed to tell me this?" Kyle asked.
"Because, that sword is not the only one."
"You mean there's more than one Einlanzer?"
"In a sense, yes." She began coughing up blood, but when Kyle reached forward to hold her, she held her arm up in defense. "No, dear, don't worry about me. Anyway, Einlanzer was a great mage-knight of long ago."
Kyle inhaled deeply. "Mage-knight?" He had heard about knights that were capable of wielding magic the way they wielded swords, called mage-knights. But, he had never heard of Einlanzer.
"The tale of Einlanzer can not be found in texts," his aunt answered his unasked question. "He was so powerful, he erased all mention of himself from the texts. And when he died, he erased himself from the memories of people. They remembered him as just another man."
"But then how do you know about him?"
Kyle's aunt struck him over the head with her cane. "I'm getting there!" She coughed some more. "When he died, his equipment was scattered all over the world, each one containing a different attribute of him. Your uncle came across one of Einlanzer's equipment: that sword on the wall. In contains Einlanzer's dark side: is greed. When your uncle came in contact with the sword, he learned the tale of Einlanzer from it."
"But you told meyou were afraid I'd become like my uncle."
There wass another crack over Kyle's head with the cane. "Patience, boy! I'm getting there!" She coughed. "As I was saying, he learned about the other parts of Einlanzer's equipment as a result of learning about him. Unfortunately, since the part he possessed was Einlanzer's greed, your uncle was driven to find all the parts. He never did, though, and he died trying."
"But Father told me Uncle died from some kin of viral infection."
"That is only half-true. Your uncle's heart was infected with Einlanzer's greed, which drove him to his death when he attacked a band of ogres he believed were carrying a piece of Einlanzer."
"So why wait to tell me?"
This time, the cane broke over Kyle's head, and he held his pulsing head hard. "Damn it, boy! I'm trying to tell you!" More coughing and wheezing. "We didn't want to see you become evil like your uncle did; we knew we couldn't bare the pain. But we wanted you to take up the sword and fight with it. And, if you so desire, seek the other equipment." She raised her hand to the sword. "Take it."
Kyle looked at the blade, heitant about wanting to take it.
"Please, Kyle, I don't have much time," she said.
Kyle rose from his seat and approached the wall, then drew the sword from the wall. Indeed, he could feel the hatred in the blade as it was held in his right hand. And he became aware of Einlanzer.
"Please, Kyle," the woman said. "Kill me."
Kyle turned to her. "What!?"
"End my suffering. Let me die swift and quickly."
Kyle stared at the old woman, then at the sword in hand. He shook his head.
"I can't," he said.
"Kyle..."
Kyle simply left the room.

Kyle became angry upon remembering that scene, and began slashing wildly. Anyone unfortunate to get caught in his frenzy would be just that: anyone unfortunate to get caught in his frenzy.

Josmir drew some lines to help aid his arguement (The black lines are Undead).

http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/1142/lastscan8-ed.JPG

"But with this plan, most of the Undead will start to go southeast since the walls and trenches will stop them from going forward. We would need to focus most of our forces there, which might lead to more casualties."

GatoFiero 05-10-2004 10:35 PM

"Time to simplify this. Once the undead realize our fortifications, they will go right and left."

"The ones who go left will have to make their way through thick forest which will break them up good and allow for easy mop up."

"But you believe that the majority will go right. Meaning that they will eventually get around our wall."

"I recommend we even distribute our mages across the wall, in order to maximize their effectiveness. Then as the undead attempt to move around, we move our mages to the edges of the walls to hit them hard. We can also have the ogre dragoons positioned at the south with some spare white mage's and fighters from the wall. The other 50 dragoons should head to the picket to help with picking off the undead who make it through the forest."

"But the point is, that hopefully the undead will lose a good portion of their forces before they realize they should move around us."

Dante 05-10-2004 10:59 PM

"I wouldn't mind leading a small force of mages into the fray. We could hide amidst the trees, then when they hit our defense we could sandwich them between us."

IHateMakingNames 05-10-2004 10:59 PM

After some drawing, Josmir showed the heroes a new map.

http://img2.imageshack.us/img2/3794/lastscan7a1.jpg

"On the main road, fire arrows and fire spells can be used. That wall next to the main road is to help prevent fire spread. Then below that is a long line of Archers and Mages. If we clear the trees from the front of the trenches and dig them a little deeper, we can put a small layer of oil at the bottom, then shot some fire arrows in the bottom and ignite it all. The mages will be nearby to cast water spells incase the fire gets out of hand. When they reach the bottom, the Ogre Dragoons will be ready, with about 400 Fighters and 150 of the white magess there to aid them. Up north we have some towers to check if any Undead are coming that way, then 50 Dragoons, 100 Fighters, and 50 white mages to fight them off."

After that long explaination, Josmir paused for a moment. "Everyone agree?"

Kain 05-10-2004 11:03 PM

Keth reviewed the map one more time. "Hmm... It looks good enough to me. Let us begin preparations immediately"

GatoFiero 05-10-2004 11:08 PM

"I guess i'll go along with it."

Dante 05-10-2004 11:09 PM

"Sounds good, just let me know where to go."

Joseph Pandora 05-10-2004 11:10 PM

"Looks great to me if it matters," said Sabtor, "now that the plans are laid (barring any objections) where am I supposed to stand."

IHateMakingNames 05-10-2004 11:16 PM

"Well, in my opinion, I think this is how you all should split up." Josmir wrote some names on the map.

http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/922/lastscan7a.jpg

"Sabtor, if my five Avian scouts or myself report of very little Undead in the northern forest, you may be better off in there assassinating them one at a time. If that is the case, that means most of the Undead would have gone South, so Kyle and those troops can go south. If not, just fight with Kyle. Of course, if any of you think you'd be better off some where else, by all means go there."

Joseph Pandora 05-10-2004 11:31 PM

"Thats alright with me," said Sabtor grinning, "I just hope Kyle can stand even the chance that I might be fighting with him."

Dante 05-10-2004 11:39 PM

"Right, I'll drive them towards Yama and Barash. No problem."

Otaku Son 05-11-2004 11:33 AM

((When did Sabtor learn Kyle's name? Before it was "the big guy who was harassing him.))

"Why are you burning down our villiage!?" cried the old man. "What have we done to you!?"
"Didn't I warn you not to ask questions!?" Kyle yelled as he thrust the sword through the old man's stomach.
The citizens cried as they watched villiage elder's life fly from his back. Kyle brought the sword up, splitting the upper-half of the old man in half. Children looked away from the terrible deed, clenching the hems of their mothers' dresses. Men were angered, but they dared not charge at Kyle after having seen his destructive power upon their dear villiage.
Actually, one rushed at Kyle.
"Fool," was all Kyle muttered as he quickly swung his sword in a very small arc, removed the feet from the man's legs.
The fool fell to the ground, his bloody stubs landed over Kyle's feet. Kyle kicked the man away, but he insisted to crawl back on his arms and knees. Kyle simply brought the sword down on the man's skull, intentionally stopping half-way through so the man could feel the cold of the blade in his skull. Kyle promptly removed the sword, and the man suffered for three minutes before finally dying.
"Anyone else want to try?" Kyle asked the group. "Come on, I can see it in your eyes that you want to." Afterall, every town for the past five towns had several people who wanted to take him on.
"I'll take you, vile fiend," a voice came from behind Kyle.
Kyle turned, only to feel something come up on his face, leaving its mark over his right eye. Kyle stumbled back and knelt, holding the bleeding cut on his face. But, his left eye steadied itself on his opponent. Or, more precisely, his opponent's weapon.

Kyle stopped attacking the trees for a minute and planted his swords in the ground. He ran his right hand over the scar, then cringed his hand in a tight fist.
"Why?" was all he muttered to himself.
He picked his swords up once again and began attacking those wood sources.

Elminster_Amaur 05-11-2004 02:32 PM

"Why is my name on the bottom of the page?" Zak inquired.
