Quite frankly, it doesn't matter how big something is if it is going fast enough. Wood splinters in a tornado can go through steel.

If you want, give me the mass of the greatsword and I'll calculate its Momentum and Kinetic Energy.

But, now you've lost that sword until the battle ends (That would not kill an Undead Ogre. Living Ogres can survive that), and why does a bard have a sword in the first place?

Also, splinters can't go through steel unless it's an extremely thin sheet of steel.
