Pokémon Ruby playthrough, Nuzlocke edition

First this won't be so much an LP as an OOC log. Just recording the frustrations of playing pokemon Ruby (because if you think I'm restarting Diamond, then screw you, buddy) with Nuzlocke's rules.

Who is Nuzlocke, you ask? A /v/ user, who came up with a new ruleset for pokemon playthroughs. Google him for more info. The rules vary slightly (though #1 and #2 are always included); the ones I'm playing with are:
1: If a pokemon faints, you may not use it again, you must release it ASAP (it's considered dead)
2: You may only catch the first wild pokemon you meet on each route (If the first pokemon is a rattata, you lose out, it's the only one you can catch, don't care how many rattata you have already. If the first pokemon faints, you lose, no second try, wait until next route)
3: No item use in-battle (though hold items and berries are allowed). No revives, ever.
4: If a pokemon's HP drops to 1 due to poison, it's dead
5: Nickname all pokemon
6: No shift-style battle
7: No save states. Save only when you stop playing.

Quite a bit of stuff, but it might work. I'm playing it this way because
a) I'm bored
and
b) The strategy I'm employing ("Use your starter and nothing but your starter") is what I usually use to go through games the first time, and it's never seemed too hard to me before. I just wanna see how well I do.

I picked Mudkip as my starter (good defence, nice movepool, I looove earthquake) and am on route 102 at the moment, only just started. I'll post a longer update once I reach the first gym, and then probably keep posting one-update-per-gym where I roughly outline what's happened, who died, when I got close to failing, what I caught, that sort of thing. Should be fun.

Feedback? Advice?

Do we REALLY need another thread for a pokemon whathaveyou (smells like an LP without outside input)? Couldn't this also be done on a blog or something? Talked about in the megathread?

I mean, seriously, There's way too much Pokemon around here these days.

Hold items and berries are for pussies.

It's not necessary, no... Though considering that Playing games was never a super-active forum anyway, I didn't think too much about posting this here. (At least it's no Seil thread).

But if it's getting too cluttered, and a mod can find some good way of merging this with something else, sure, I'd be fine with that.

If there's no elegant way of merging it, I guess I could just discontinue it, if you want me to. I have no blog or anything, but, like you pointed out, feedback isn't necessary for this. I just wanted recognition. Recognition... and love.
But you're going to spit on those tender dreams, aren't you? Yeah, go ahead, break my heart and kill me. I don't even care! I WILL BE AVENGED!

You could at least put some pictures up.

I would, but I'm not playing a rom. And is it even possible to somehow take screencaps on the DS? Because I didn't think it was. Most others who make Nuzlocke playthroughs make comics as well, but I'm really no very artistic. This is just to see if it's really as hard as people treat it as being.

And Smarty, screw you. I'll need, at the very least, quick claw, and later soft sand, to help Marshy survive. Perhaps no berries, though.

Hahahahaha. Better hope none of the opponents look at you funny! You might explode!

.... It's generally the most active forum here, if I recall correctly.

Boy is there ever. We already have three LPs of varying update frequency (and this IS a LP even if you don't act the part) and it's all starting to blur together.

Also, rule #2 is just stupid. I've never been fond of "hardcore" rulesets to begin with, but that seems like a really pointless limiter.
