Beard me!

This thread is about beards. And moustaches aswell, I guess. And sideburns. So it's about facial hair. Why am I making a thread about facial hair?

Well, basically I've never grown much of it. That is to say, I've never gone longer periods of time without shaving. September this year I am returning to military service. They dont allow you to have much hair in the army, and that includes facial hair. So I see this summer as my final chance (before entering service) to try out having some hair grow on my face.

In this thread, I aim to document the growth of said hair. But meanwhile, since that might be a long process, I invite all of you to share your facial-hair-related experiences or shear your own magnificent beard or moustache with the rest of us.

A few final words for opening the thread.
1) If the thread just dies out I'll assume you're not interested in facial hair (and are as such not manly enough for my tastes) and wont try to make another one
2) If at some point I find out that I look totally ridiculous with facial hair, I reserve the right to shave whenever I want to
3) Feel free to make suggestions on how to 'model' my facial hair as it grows

We'll see how far I get. Let's do this. Here is a picture of me how I normally look like, without any facial hair. The picture is from a year ago, but I haven't changed much.

My beard is a weed, if I leave it alone for a week I get a full beard. So silly

I suggest growing a goatee and waxing it to a point. Tophat and monocle are optional, but recommended.

This. Or mutton chops.

My beard is amorphous, it's never the same for very long. I blame my facial construction and lack of style. At present, I am sporting a chin strap and goatee hybrid. I'd like to see what it looks like if I go bald.

I drew myself in MS Paint. It's not very accurate* (according to this I look sort of like a nerd Jesus) but you can get the basic idea of my facial hair that way.

I couldn't take a picture due to the lack of a camera that makes pictures of higher quality than what I did in MS Paint.

I just let it grow and shaved everywhere else. Story of my beard, only on NPF.

Of course I have to trim it sometimes.

Might be somewhat hard to judge on one photos, however.

Judging from your build and fashion in that photo I think any large amounts of facial hair might end up looking a bit out of place on you. I would keep it to manicured scruff at most.

Then again if this is your only attempt until after Miltiary service, get some grease and forge those bicycle handles!

Speaking from personal experience, my hair does not grow in very thickly. At all. However, if I let it be longer than 2 or 3 inches, nobody can tell. Right now it's about five inches long all around but I'm like five minutes away from leaving to get my beard trimmed after having not touching it since January; The hair on the top of my head, as well. Yeah, I don't get haircuts very often, ands that's usually when I get my beard trimmed/shaped/whatev'd >.>

Anywho, I'll post a picture once I get back, I guess.

I haven't had a shave in almost a week. Looking at myself, I can see why I try not to do this too often.

I should enter the "most pathetic facial hair" competition, with my weedy tache, ridiculous sideburns, neckbeard and very little else.

I am incapable for growing anything more than a sad little goatee thing. Chin tuft if most accurate. SMB Lend me your beard abilities for..... Lets say 3 days.

bluestarultor 05-29-2010 12:36 PM

You actually look pretty good without one, Oster, but given your face shape, I think your best options would be either a goatee (chin tuft w/ soul patch) or the same with a connecting mustache.

Something like sohttp://i48.tinypic.com/slpwec.jpg or like this, only thinner.http://i45.tinypic.com/2dsfjn4.jpg
