Peanuts
1 Attachment(s)
I don't want to sound like the evil apathetic/cynical/bastard my friends say I am, but for the last 3 years my local paper, in a blantant and flatout refusal to move on with the times, still runs freakin Peanuts.
They bill them as "Peanuts Classics". Despite this title its the same tired old comic. This irritates me to no end. Now personally Peanuts was never my favorite comic. I'm a Calvin and Hobbs( two thumbs up to who ever posted that thread) man, but I admit peanuts was good and worthy of its reputation, but was really boring for the last 5 years I read it. But back on topic, is it evil of me to want to firebomb my local paper until they stop rerunning a comic that the creator of died 3 years ago? Peanuts had its time and a great run and is an Icon of comics and all that jazz. But really MOVE ON. Schultz as great as he was, died. Lets move on to a newer comic get some new blood in there. Does this bug anyone else? Do any other local newpapers around the country/world still run Peanuts? Thoughts? Opinions? Rude Remarks? Rant over. Thank for you time. |
Maybe they're lazy. They don't really care about Schulz, they just don't want to renegotiate for comics rights from another source.

I like the Peanuts, but I'm starting to agree.
Our newspaper does it, but it just doesn't seem to be the same thing. They should do rememberence type things via the Peanuts movies. |
They have Peanuts movies?
|
Our paper also friggin runs old Peanuts too labeled the same way so does another paper right near us, it's just a really cheap way to cach in on a dead guy

btw, wtf is up with that pic? Nothing to do with peanuts. As for the comic its-self, I love it.

Peanuts stays around because people would whine and moan at the newspapers if it was ever removed. If you're luckless to have that lousy "Mark Trail*" strip in your local newspaper and have ever wondered why it continues to exist, it's the same reason - newspapers get overwhelmed with complaints whenever they try to get rid of the strip.
I suppose ultimately it's quite simple: more people like Peanuts than dislike. Or, at the very least, the people who like it are far more vocal. Personally, I've never found it funny or entertaining the slightest. * = Or whatever it's called. It involves some do-gooder ranger in the old 50's style of comic-strip. Humor is not involved. |
I know what you mean by mark trail...
We still carry Mary Worth and And what's the one about the Coach... Blondie, Hagar the Horrible, I don't so much as if there are more people that like peanuts than don't, but I do agree with you on the up roar thing. People are scared of change, and freak out. That and old people actually are like motivated to complain and vote and stuff. Anyway, I guess I bring this up because as a youth (8-14) I read all the comics in the news paper ,even ones I didn't like, every day. Now if I pick up the local paper I read them and they are all the freakin same. I get the Detroit paper as well as the local one and that paper has changed its line quite a bit with good mix of older comics and newer ones. Though I shall never for give the local paper for getting rid of Liberty Meadows. That was such a good comic. |
Charlie Brown is just so damn depressing, he's angst manifested, just with none the anger.
Snoopy was the best, Schulz was great at giving that dog such life an emotion, half the time without words. |
i never liked peanuts, recently my newspaper started puting in old far side comics to replace denis the menace, and family circus(alternating each day) plus, they also picked up opus whitch has started back up.
i combat not liking it, by not reading it |
