The Arrival

Alt title: An Eyefucking in Book Form.

The Arrival is, quite simply, the most beautiful graphic novel I have ever seen.

It's a haunting, beautiful, completely wordless story about a man who moves to another land in search of a home for his family, in a really strange world. It's sort of the classic immigrant story, almost, I guess.

Here's an excerpt.

This image kinda makes me wish my inner eye was blind.

In all seriousness though the book does look gorgeous, and the content of the little sample has me very intrigued. Is it just me or does it have a very Ellis Island meets the Wizard of Oz meets Brazil-like beauracracy feel to it?

Makes me think of moving to America between the wars, in all honesty.
Edit: The world ones, that is, for want of a better way to phrase it.

Sort of. There's not much Brazil-ness, it's just that the excerpt is from the part where he gets into town and has to go through magic Ellis Island.
