Awesome Foods
What have you eaten that stands out as something really goddamn awesome?
When I was in Japan, we ate a ramen place, and it was just fantastic. In the US, when I think of ramen I think of that cheap shit you get pre-packaged at the grocery story. This had tons of ingredients and actual friggin flavor. When I lived in Pocatello, there was this Mexican place that served the best burritos I have ever eaten. This isn't Taco Bell "burritos". This is what a real burrito is. Dripping with juices and flavor, and with some real fucking salsa. Goddamn I miss that place. T_T |
Hey, I've eaten food before! It's *neat*, isn't it?
I've been trying a variety of fancy-pants gourmet cheeses lately, and I've discovered some absolutely delightful things. Gouda with apple slices, for instance, is now one of my favorite foods ever, and Brie on sourdough toast is great.
I also really, really like eggplant slices fried in olive oil with salt, pepper and garlic powder; and asparagus cooked just right (too many people boil it until it's floppy, which is a mistake--it needs to be firm and tender-crisp) is a treat. |
Almost everything Japanese. Seriosly, that is some good food they eat there.

Snake Steak. It was a little tough, but had an odd taste that was just.... good.

Hummus. It's very cheap and easy to make at home and tastes delicious on everything. I usually just add lots of fresh garlic but sometimes I'll add some cilantro for something different.
When I have the time I like to make my own bread, too, with garlic salt and dried rosemary. It doesn't last very long once it's out of the oven. |

My dad frequently makes lasagna or pasta sauces that are completely mouth watering, and a good cut above even the most gourmet Italian restaurants I've ever been to. Likewise, I can't even touch grocery packaged, or lower-end pastas anymore. Bread and Crotonese or Friulano cheeses are awesome combinations, I don't even need anything else to go with it. Filet mignon wrapped in bacon. Mmmm. Quote:

Koren Mondu is an appetizer dish made similarly to pot stickers. A filling mixture of pork sausage, cabbage, and small amounts of other seasonings and vegetables is cooked and then wrapped in a kind of thin pastry pouch. Then its deep fried. Most delicious thing ever.

Smoked eel sushi. I didn't even know it was eel until I asked the makers. It was then I've decided to keep an open mind about things and try it before I make a judgement.
Also, has anyone here tried a grilled pizza? |

There is this amazing Japanese steak house near my house, they have ramen, miso soup, and many other great things. Haven't found one thing on the menu that I don't like. Alligator and Kangaroo is quite good too, actually. |
