What costs more?

This is a spin-off of the Crack is Cheaper than..? thread. Kids won that poll by a landslide! Anyway here's a new one in all it's geeky goodness

Oh yeah I voted for Table Top RPG's. You pay for books, minis, paint, ink for stuff you print online and so on like that.

Gaming is the most expensive hobby. With three major consoles out and games going for $70 to $90 (Canadian) a shot, it's hard to keep money in your hands for long. Plus you've got all the peripherals for the consoles, online subscriptions, etc. Plus, there's handhelds and their games. Man, those drug addicts have it easy!

I was going to vote Anime at first, but anyone with a brain get most of their anime through bittorrent, which is free and legal. So, yah.

I'd have to say drugs. Though it might be easy enough to find your daily fix if you're in with the right crowd or know the right people - the biggest expense there is your LIFE.

Except for those unfortunate souls(i.e. me) who have dial up, and it would take them a day to download an episode. And they can't leave it downloading for that long, b/c it ties up their phone line. God, dial up sucks.

How very Public Service Announcement of you. Although I agree. Drugs are for losers, or really rich celebrities.

By volume, printer ink is some of the most expensive stuff on earth. Think about how much ink is actually in that printer cartridge, and then think about how much you paid for that. Now imagine paying for a gallon of it! This is why I don't complain about the price of gas.

I voted for tabletop rpgs, but now that I think of it, if you take drugs for long enough your body eventually needs the stuff. If you need something to prevent yourself from going into withdrawl, you're going to spend as much money as you can to keep it in good supply.

Collectable card games are very expensive. Think of it this way, you normally have to wait and wait to buy a game or an ounce or something like that, but with the cards themselves they are cheap. so you buy tons. Now you got a good deck, then about one week later someone owns you so you buy more cards and this cycle goes on never ending

I have a really, really tough time deciding.. Because I am addicted to more then one. Tabletop, video games, anime... And college. Accursed school, taking time away from my hobbies! Seriously, there should be a Mix of two or more option up there.

I voted video games because they're expensive to me.. I would say anime, but I borrow those from a friend, who in turn borrows my games and would no doubt say anime is the most expensive thing. So I guess it just depends on which addiction you're more willing to pay for, and what arrangements you have.

I meant expensive in terms of money not damage done to yourself. Course you knew that I just felt the need to clarify.

I've done all of the things listed ('cept drugs unless you count prescription and I don't)

I have a 56Krappy connection so I buy alot of anime, I have a weekley DnD gaming group, I buy minis and paint them:), I play Video Games, I used to play magic but I just quit.

I need a better paying job so I'll be able to afford things...like gas.

Well at least Jack of Spades credited my and my original poll thread.

I'm going to ignore the comment made about C-dog about anime, because I'm analyzing this poll from a collector's point of view. The type of person who spends mad amounts of money on this hobby. Not your mediocre guy in the respective hobby(e.g. the extremist anime-collector is listed below, the extremist D&Der buys all the rulebooks, game pieces, maps, dice, dice holder, etc., and so-on and so-forth).

Anime is the most-expensive habit for the hardcore collector(you know, people who buy stuff and don't just leech off bit-torrent or their friends). There's limited edition box sets(which used to only be $5 and came with free stuff like CDs and T-shirts, but now companies are charging for the stuff inside, too), limited edition DVDs, limited edition re-releases, and the list just goes on for limited edition stuff. And depending on who releases it and where you buy it, DVDs can range from three episodes for $20 to three episodes for $30 to six episodes for $30(in the case of three episodes for $30, and it's a long series, that's a lot of DVDs). Then you've got the manga and sountrack CDs(which are starting to become expensiver than normal CDs because companies are putting the useless copyright-protection strips on their CDs, and they're useless because people can still rip the tracks). And then there's all the collectables like card games(Jack, you should have specified whether or not anime-based card games fall under anime or card games), BESM(ditto for Tabletop RPGs), toys, lighters, candy(Pokemon candy...ewwww...), apparel, and so on.

Also, MoM, I have dialup and I still download anime.

Video games, you can kinda camp out and wait for the price to go down. Anime's price hasn't gone down in over the nine years I've been collecting it. Also, video games are the same price reguardless of special edition or not, and they never have limited editions.

Now, if you live in Japan where they do have limited editions of video games and all that, that might be a different story. Ah, those poor(not money-wise) Japanese...being stuc between buying limited edition video games and limited edition video games.

I don't see any limited edition things for Tabletop RPGs. Books are roughly $30 a piece, and one store I buy anime at has Tabletop RPG supplies for $10 for a d4, d5, d6, d8, d10, d15, and d20 set, so dice are cheap. Same with Miniatures.

Drugs would probably rank second under anime because of the high costs. I would think the adverage drug-user spends a little less on anime than the average anime otaku.

The only way "other" is winning is if people select kids as their choice.
