Why I think Gamecube is Better
We've been through these kinds of topics before, but I needed to get this off my chest.
*** Fewer Games. This might not seem like all that great a thing at first, but take into account the number of high-quality GameCube Games, compared to the number of high-quality PS2 or XBox games. There's fewer games overall for the GC, but chances are if you pick up any random game off the shelf, it'll be good. So I suppose that should be "higher quality games on average" Smaller. The gamecube is far more portable than the PS2 or g0d` forbid, the XBox (which is practically the size and weight of a PC tower, because thats exactly what it is... a PC tower.) Cheaper. $100 for a system, controller, and game? Hell, amazon has em for $48 used! http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...70457?v=glance Lack of DVD playback. Again, this might sound like a bad thing, but really - its not. This is the main reason why the PS2 and Xbox are heavier, larger, and more expensive. And neither even allow DVD playback without an addon remote! So why get a DVD player builtin (which isn't even a good player, and has way less features than a bottom line regular DVD player)? I got my Apex dvd player for $40 and it plays DVD's, mp3 cd's, music cd's, CD-R's and CD-RW's, does slideshows of CD's filled with pictures, and has surround sound. $100 gamecube + $50 for a DVD player is still a better deal than an XBox or PS2, considering you'd be shafted if your XBox/PS2 dvd laser broke. Cuz if your laser breaks, you're out a game system and a dvd player! Warranty. Gamecube breaks in the first year? No Problem, Nintendo will fix it for you. Free shipping. What's that? You broke your XBox or PS2 4 months after buying it? Uh oh, looks like you're screwed, they only offer a 90 day warranty. PS2 sucks. PS2 only has 2 controller ports. It has worse graphics than XBox/Cube (understandable, since its the oldest of the current systems). Sure, its got millions of games, but that just means there's a lot more crap to wade through. And those controllers? Talk about uncomfortable. Ditto for the Xbox controllers. I'll give the XBox credit where its due, though. It's got a builtin hard drive, and the graphics are pretty darn good. But considering that its almost 95% built with standard PC parts, you could easily build a computer that tears it apart for gaming for a little more money, and then be able to use it to surf the internet, play *way* more games, etc. But I don't trust Microsoft. |

1. The PS2 can play DVDs without a remote. The Xbox can't (which is weak), but the PS2 can. 2. Psst. Maybe you didn't know this, but you do know that Nintendo has a special panasonic version of the Gamecube that plays dvds right? http://www.lik-sang.com/image.php?ca...sonic-gamecube 3. Your APEX DVD player is a piece of crap in construction and overall quality compared to the PS2 or Xbox, even if they can't play MP3 or Picture CDs. The Xbox and PS2 also do surround sound. I can guarantee that a newer model PS2 or any XBox will outlast that DVD player. Quote:
Fact: -The Xbox 90 day warranty is from THE DATE OF MANUFACTURE. Meaning that if you buy an Xbox that's been sitting on the shelf for a long time (like...well, a lot of them have), your warranty might already be out! -The PS2 actually has a way of recording what you plug into it, especially stuff that isn't first-party. Sony won't fix your PS2 if you use non-sony stuff with it. Quote:
Are your hands mangled or something? The PS2 controller and the SMALL Xbox controller are QUITE comfortable. The GC controller is nice too. I have no problem with the controllers of any of the systems. Try playing Capcom vs. SNK on the GC and then the PS2. There's no contest. Also, the PS2 has a hell of a lot more A+ games than the cube. Hello? Silent Hill series? Fatal Frame Series? Resident Evil Outbreak? Final Fantasy series (nevermind I didn't like X or X-2)? Devil May Cry (the first one)? Onimusha? GTA? etc. etc? Quote:
And I don't trust Microsoft either. They're just buying their way into the industry, and will continue to throw money into the black hole that is their Xbox division until they control the market. The fratboys are going to buy Xbox2 though, so MS can't be counted out as much as we'd like them to be. |
I think quality games to crap ratio is kind of opinion. I don't like most of the games on the GC. Animal Crossing was fun for awhile... Metroid Prime is good, but I have trouble getting into it due to a hatred of first person views, I don't like the newer mario games, and I don't have a whole lot of people to play FF:CC with (zero) so there's no way I'm buying that. This leaves me with, what? Wind Waker for games on the GC I like? Maybe a few others that I just don't know about... but that's ok, I bought it purely for legend of zelda... the only nintendo franchise that I still like.
For the PS2, however, I like DMC, KH, FFX, FFX-2 (come on, the battle system is fun, even if the story is utter crap), Orphen Scion of Time, the GTA games, Contra: Shattered Soldier, Guilty Gear X, and that's just games I have... and I rarely spend money. It's also not counting the PS1 games that run on it. Note: I have both those systems, and I'll buy games for either that look good to me. For the GC I only have Animal Crossing, Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, and Mario Sunshine. Of those, I actually enjoy metroid prime... I listed off all the PS2 games I have. As for the rest: Smaller: Who cares? Really... who hauls their consoles with them everywhere they go? Besides, if this was really a sticking point, we'd all still be using the Sega Genesis and NES... they're the smallest consoles I have... and I have nearly all of them. Also: The Sega Dreamcast is smaller than the gamecube, and is nearly as powerful, and has some very cool games, if you can find them. I present that the Dreamcast is, indeed, a better system if you like small libraries and small consoles. Cheaper: Yah, alright... it's cheaper. But that's because it falls short in library and graphics. PS2 owns the library, and Xbox owns the graphics/processing power. Gamecube is middling in the power and last for library. Lack of DVD playback: Really... this is just an add-on to 'cheaper'. Yes, it costs less because it doesn't have something the other two do... is it just me, or should this be common sense? Warranty: I'll conceed this. Nintendo has always had great customer service... speaking of which, I need to get my NES fixed. PS2 Sucks: Yes, it has fewer controller ports, and the graphics aren't as good... but the games it has don't need twenty billion controller ports, and it has lots of them. Hell, most of the games on the GC and X-box don't make use of more than one of those ports, much less all 3. As for the graphics... have you played FFX, FFX-2, or KH? Do you REALLY need anything much better than that? Seriously... Controllers: I actually find the GC's controller to be the least comfortable. It's easy to hold, but the button placement is wonky. The PS2 is very easy for me to hold... it's like a more comfortable version of the SNES controller's. Maybe your hands ARE deformed... or you're just holding it wrong or something. And the X-box S-controller is similiar to the Dreamcast's... which is comfortable as hell. Most people agree with that one. Not that the GC is bad. It's just not as superior... or even close to as superior as you seem to think... It's really just a complete matter of opinion and what kinds of games you like. RPGs with a strong base in everything else: PS2 Action Adventure and Mario-esque platformers: GC First Person shooters and sports: X-box. |
I hate these GC/Nintendo bashing threads. Why is it such a fad to bash Nintendo nowadays?
|
Bash? This thread was made to say GC is better then the rest. How is that bashing it? Though, it was obvious the replies would be GC bashing, but the purpose wasn't to bash.
|
...I wasn't bashing it. I was presenting an opposing arguement because he bashed the PS2, which happens to be my favorite.
I really only listed off its weak points, and the PS2's strong points. I didn't touch on the X-Box too much because I haven't had much experience with it. I just know what it's good at, that's all. |
The purpose wasen't to bash, sure, but it quickly turned into a bashing thread. Start a thread praising a system, and others will come to bash it. It's that simple.
[EDIT: Krylo, half your post was saying how the Gamecube sucks. Saying at the bottem that's it not bad doesn't exactly redeem everything you've said.] |
Atma: I said that I don't like most of the games and that it was an opinion as to what is better. Everything else I said was true. Name one thing that's not.
It does have the smallest library... it is middling for graphics (between PS2 and X-box), it's controller DOES have wonky button positions that don't allow you to reach all of them. Granted, you don't have to use all of them most of the time... but what's the point of having them then? Most of it's games DON'T make use of the controller ports... |
I can reach all of the bottoms on the GC controller easily (As well as the PS2 controller, and the XBox (Big) controller).
Edit - And if you want to play with friends (Not friend, friends), you'll need more then two controller ports. |
Yes, IHMN... but many GC games aren't multiplayer in the first place, that's my point.
