So my grandma has 116 felony convictions.

It all started when my mother called me up. She saw this iPhone app called "Date Check" on TV where, if you put in a person's phone number, you get their age, address, and criminal record. Anyway, she decided to download it and start playing with other people's numbers. At some point, she tried my grandma's phone number. Correct name and correct address came up. It also says she has 116 felony convictions. Now, as far as I know, grandma (the mother of my mother) has not served any jail time at any point in my life or my mom's life. So either this app is completely off the ball, or my grandmother is the most magnificent bastard of all time.

As an aside, my mom also has a couple clients who have served jail time in the past. They don't show any criminal history on "Date Check."

So, yeah. Discuss "Date Check" and how it will tear our society apart.

[Hijack] Speaking of random personal info searches, which I search for myself, I think I turn up dead on this one site. My father's dead and we have the same name. The listing is my birthdate and full name, his death date. Wires crossed there?

Been wondering about that for a while. Sadly it's the kind of place where you have to pay for full info. Don't even remember the specific site.

On the original topic: I'm wary of these kinds of applications. First off on an ethical level, but also on an accuracy level. Simply put, if anyone had 116 felony convictions, they'd never see the light of day again.

In other words, if it was at all true, I'd hazard to say it violated privacy rights, but as it is, it's just bullshit.

Talk me up to speed here.
A felony is a big thing, yeah? Like robbery? Or does it also include small stuff, like forgetting to pay speeding tickets? Or ever getting speeding tickets.

'Cause I could sooner see a sweet old granny ending up with 116 felonies for speeding (or forgetting to pay the corresponding tickets on time), and never ever being sent to jail.

Felonys are big crimes, yeah. Misdimeanors are the small things.

Yeah, felony's major stuff. If she had 116 felonies she would be a serial killer/robber/arsonist/rapist or some combination of those.

More like she'd have had to have been all of those at the same time and not gotten caught for years.

Not to mention all the Tax evading you'd be doing as you ran from the law.

Really we should be more worried about that other new app that allows you to find the exact location of any of your friends phones at any time. Fortunately my phone is suitable low tech enough to avoid this kind of creepy stalker detection.
