In this thread, we class it up

So one things I've noticed in my travels is that dudes don't know how to dress. Now while you may know me as a hobo-king I have a part-time job as a classy classy dude. The bennefeits of being classy are manifold- despite being an ugly man with unkempt beard and hair I get lots of people talking to me a t bars/clubs because I'm sweetly dresed and I can skip cover charges most of the time.
So NPF, it make over time.
1) Colour contrast is real big right now. There are two major schools of colour contrast, the layer effect (where clothing is contrasted by layer) or the extremities being contrasted with the interior. Now this one is difficult if you are not a classy dude like me with a wardrobe full of colour, so I'll give you an easy one. Most dress pants are black and black shirts are pretty common. Get a pair of white gym shoes- they don't have to be that classy, the attention won't focus on them- some white gloves, black and white hat if you got it- blammo an incredibly simple and classic outfit that actually works really well and is cheap as fuck. Don't ruin it with a white shirt in the middle, fucking awful.
2) Hats are sweet and amking a comback. Now there is a problem with hats. If you go to a tailor and get a hat measured it will be the wrong size because if you are a classy dude you aren't a tailor so they don't know class. You want a hat htat is 1-2 sizes too small, it depends on the type of hat. Properly fitting hats are total unclass.
3) Special bonus: If you have quite fine features or don't have much meat on your belly don't wear men's jackets, wear women's jackets particularly ones that flare at the hips and that hug arm tightly.
If you have heavy features, a sqaurce cut waistcoat is useful or any adornments aroundthe torso just to left right spine, the pocket region. A little flash is essential in this region.

So now we're all dressing properly we can class this place up in other ways cause frankly its a mess.

I see no mention of witty t-shirts or ratty jeans.

I reject this advice.

Professor Smarmiarty 08-21-2010 08:22 PM

I forgot to mention: rohypnol is classy as fuck

My wardrobe - well-worn blue jeans, t-shirt, construction boots.

Fuck you, it's comfortable and I like it.

SMB's fashin advice is greatly lacking Zippers and accessories.

This is why you cry yourself to sleep at night wiggy.

Zippers are out, velcro is in as are overly large buttons- but you need to be careful with the latter. Without proper intergration into the outfit they overpower it and turn it into a mockery. Not for beginners.

Are we taking fashion advice from the communist, now?

krogothwolf 08-21-2010 08:25 PM

I thought he was an anarchist?

While everybody else was guffawing around in ridiculous tophats and tails, we were rocking it out in grungy flatcaps and oversized overcoats- a sense of anarchic fashion at least 50 years before it became mainstream.

There is al ot of overlap. Communo-anarchism is a pretty common synthesis of the two.

E: 4) Before I pass out: Watches- Don't do it. Just don't.

5) Ignore google ads- tuxedos are not "stylish". They reek of both pretention and lack of creativity. You can do a lot with a tuxedo as a base but it is merely that, a blank canvas. You can't just wear one and be like - classy as fuck am I. Dull. Avoid unless you're bruce wayne, the penguin or at a wedding.

All too often, people try to color-match too much. The idea of highlights has completely escaped them.
