Musashi?
This is rather an odd question, but I figured there would be no better place to go to enquire about it.
In epsiode 068, Fighter refers to himself as "Bruce Lee meets Musashi". Does anyone know who Musashi is, offhand? I wonder only because I've heard him referred to in a quote from one of Eric Van Lustbader's books, and I wished to learn more. The quote, specifically, is this: He thought of Musashi, the Sword Saint, standing in his garden more than three hundred years ago. "What is the Body of a rock'?" he was asked. In answer, Musashi summoned a pupil of his and bid him kill himself by slashing his abdomen with a knife. Just as the pupil was about to comply, the Master stayed his hand, saying, "That is the 'Body of a rock'." --Eric Van Lustbader If anyone knows where I can find the book that's from, I'd appreciate it. Thanks! |
I think this belongs in the 8BT section, since it's about the comic. But in any event, I think the "Musashi" Brian had on his mind was Musashi from "Brave Fencer Musashi," a Zelda-type RPG made by Squaresoft. Or, he was thinking of the Musashi which the Musashi was based on: a samurai from Feudal Japan. But, since not many people know the real Musashi legend, I think It's Brave Fencer Musashi.

it could have been, I thought he meant Miamoto Musashi, a famous samurai from feudal Japan.

Who Brave Fencer is most likely named after.

Who brave fencer IS named after. That game is fun.

Mushasi was from an old Playsation game titled Brave Fenser Mushasi, which is IMO, one of quirkiest and funniest games ever. Just the names of people and places alone still makes me laugh. Alucaneet (all you can eat) Castle is my favorite.

Ummmm...is it just me...or did everyone just repeat what I already posted?
|
What I'm trying to say is that it is based of the samurai NOT the video game by squaresoft featuring the sword Lumina. The samurai as seen in the movies "the Musashi trilogy."
|
Musashi was also the samurai who wrote the "book of five rings", which explained his philosophy and swordfighting technique.
|
Musashi was a samurai in Japan in the umm...somethinghundreds. He wrote the Book of the Five Rings, as Dragonsbane said, and was the inventor/perfecter of the nito ryu school of swordfighting, i.e. a katana in the right hand and a shoto or wakizashi in the left. If you ask any student of Japanese history who the "greatest" samurai of all time was, chances are high that they will say Musashi. He's awesome.
