Capitalism, ho!

Capitalism, ho!

This game, named Recettear, is a delightful little indie gem. You play as Recettear, a young girl who has inherited her late fathers debt. In order to pay it off, you run an item store for adventurers.

I'd recommend taking a look at it; it's got a comprehensive demo, and the localizer rubs me the right way in how they approach things.

CAPITALISM, HO!

Heard good things. May try the demo when I have time. It's one of those things where I'm never sure if I'm going to have the patience for it.

Locke this isn't really a game that needs patience....

I was gonna post about this but I was too busy over the weekend catching up on work.

I was busy because I put work off in order to play.... Recettear. This game is unbelievably addictive. It's awesome, but it's basically Diablo meets Animal Crossing with healthy dollops of Zelda esque combat and the Atelier series. It's pretty evil honestly, also the games method of breaking stuff up into time periods results in Civilisation-esque "one more turn" syndrome. "Must sell these Chobham Armours at a mark up while little girls are on an armour buying spree, oh I'll just play another day so I won't forget that order of treasure due tomorrow, wow I managed to finally sell that awesome knife to Charme, should go on a dungeon dive to test it out..."

So yeah it's fantastic but be warned it's going eat time like someone crossed Civilisation and Diablo.

Also LATE GAME SPOILERS Recette calling Griff out on being a RPG stereotype was so goddamn hilarious I actually hurt myself laughing "You seriously want to usher in a new age of darkness and become a dark lord, in this day and age? I feel embarassed just listening to you....". On a more serious note the music near the end of that level was awesome, it sounded vaguely like a homage to The Pinnacle music from the Castelvania games.. That's another thing this game has got an excellent localisation, lots of personality, lots of humour and all the details come through. Read the item descriptions, some of them are gold.

so its a game where you are one of those money grubbing pricks that have the balls to charge you for items when you are TRYING TO SAVE THE WORLD?

Thats awesome, love the concept, gonna play it next time I have some down time

Someone needs to make a mod of this where you are Marcus from Borderlands.

And who is that?

EVILNess 09-20-2010 01:42 AM

Does the main character always look like a slack-jawed soulless doll under some kind of weird mind control?

Professor Smarmiarty 09-20-2010 02:26 AM

Can I take out loans from the bank, use those loans to buy other stores, transfer the loans to those stores and then take money out of those stores as various administrative fees and thus make shit loads of money with no liabilities?

greed 09-20-2010 02:38 AM

No but you can wait for the harvest to fail and charge 350% on food and some other evil things.

Edit: also no Ness, she doesn't always look like that. She often does but Recette's often a little :) if you catch my meaning.

I thought this would be a thread about Jack Frost Monopoly or some shit. >=(
