PSP decision
 

So once upon a time I had a PSP-1000, but unfortunately it crapped out and died a little over two and a half years ago. For that entire time I have been PSP-less. I've stumbled into a situation wherein I've gotten some disposable income and can afford to replace it. But here's the issue: I already have a Nintendo DS and pretty much the entire reason I don't take it around with me and use it is that I don't like having to haul the games around with me as well.

So, I can buy a PSP-3000. Or I can buy a PSP Go.

PSP-3000: I don't really care about any of my old games, in fact I've traded in many of them. The logic of "You can keep using your old games" doesn't really appeal to me in this instance, except for one game. On the flip side, it is cheaper. AND, it is getting the new Kingdom Hearts game, while the PSP-Go is not.

PSP-Go: I can finally free myself of physical media. But, it's also more expensive. And doesn't have kingdom hearts. And I can guarantee that the moment I buy that bastard, there WILL be a price drop.


NPF, what do you think I should do? Which method of PSPing should I pursue?

I'd shop around a bit on Go if I were you, since I found a used one at my local game traders for $169 (get it and I WILL find you...).

Go with the go. It'll get the new KH later on in it's life (a year or so).

My 2000 is hanging strong after surviving being dropped over an over for almost 3 years now. but I'm still working on getting that used Go.

PSP-3000. Go is overpriced and not worth the additional price. I just don't see the point in getting a Go just because it's smaller.

Plus: Doesn't PSP-3000 have digital distribution for all the game's anyway, so long as you've got room for them?

All PSP models have digital distribution for all games.

He could get a 2000 or even another 1000 be set to play everything.

(Note: I consider the PSP-Go to be it's own system outside the normal PSP models.)

Don't bother with the Go. It's just not worth if from what I hear.


Also, rumor has it the PSP2 will be coming if ENN from The Escapist is to be believed. You may just want to wait a year.

PSP2 will most likely be announced E3 of next year, I think. I think Sony's trying to play catch-up after the 3DS happened.

Get a 3000.

I got 5 reasons for you right here:

1. It's vastly cheaper, even if you buy one of the bundles its $70 cheaper than a go. You can then use that $70 to buy a bigger Pro-stick Duo if the 2 gigs that a bundle comes with isn't big enough for you. (I find it is big enough for 2 multi-disk PSone games)
2. It can do everything the Go can do, plus play UMDs.
3. The Go has a much smaller screen (Eyestrain), and a smaller battery meaning it has equal or less battery life than the 3000.
4. Game selection. While a good chunk of the PSP library is on the PSN, not all of it is. So if you want some of the back catalog then UMD is the only way.
5. Depending on your hands this may be a non issue, but the Go is the size of a cellphone and if you have trouble playing games on one of those then I would approach cautiously.

Well, from the wording, it sounds like the existence of a working model was leaked by a loudmouth developer concerning one of their games, so...

I'm skeptical of all "leaks" of this sort. Like I think they're trying to build hype to take away from the 3DS' hype, while still not making an official announcement. I could be wrong. That's just the impression I get.

Right Now Sony is likely trying to out spec the 3DS. They'll wait a year after it's release in order to top it.

So I suppose we can expect it to boast close to 360 level Graphics, detail, and texture.

Support 3D

Include a massive 130 GB HDD.

L2 and R2 buttons along with a second analog.

Will look like the Go only fatter.

May include a disc drive or it will use SD cards.

Improve Wireless.

And will be running on the Android OS.
