Do you believe in Magic?
~....in a young girl's heart~
Ahem, anyway, so my girlfriend has been pushing me to teach her how to play Magic. I put together a cute little green cat deck for her and taught her how to play last weekend. It was fun and all but the experience had the added affect of knocking me off the deck-building wagon. I had mostly sat out the last three blocks (six expansions and a core set or two) and haven't really been making decks or doing much playing at all for the last year or so. So now I'm back into deck-building and am knee-deep in various decklists. I've got plans for green cats, red cats, green faeries, blue faeries.....and those are just for her. A friend of mine keyed me in on some new deck idea that uses the new(ish) Quest for the Holy Relic to power out some rather strong stuff. After adapting the deck more to my style.... ....here's what I came up with: Granted it's a little more "old school" but that's because I'm not a fan of the more restricted formats. The main plan is to get the Quest on the board and then power out cheap creatures to trigger it. At that point you go get the Equipment, attatch it for free, and beat your opponent to death with it. I'm told it can be done reasonably often on turn two. So yeah, how about the rest of you? Any Magic players out there having fun with the new Scars set? |
The only acceptable decks are full of walls and 1 snake.

EDIT: Well that's not gunna work. Suffice to say there are 57 Snakes. EDIT 2: Shouldn't the deck also have one Utopia Tree? |
No it shouldn't. That would be dumb.
Any snake is acceptable. I prefer mystic snake cause it's magic. |
I'm just saying, your "Garden of Eden" motiff is missing its fruit tree.

I don't have a garden of eden motif.
I have a walls and 1 snake motif. |
Fair enough.

Basically here is how it works:
Play walls for 10 turns, they think you playing a wall deck, set up to avoid combat damage and combo out then drop a snake and laugh! Hahahaha! Snake suckers. New set sucks- lack of good snakes and walls. |

I don't like deck building with my friends anymore. Fitz and I play theme decks that have some power to them, but the basic idea is just to play to a theme. (I play a white spirit deck, he plays a blue/white bird deck). Mike is a bit... obsessive with his decks. He's been building artifact decks that can 1 v 4 all of us. It makes things... less fun when we have someone who, decidedly, has a deck based on stomping the rest of us.
I quit playing magic about a year ago because of this, and only came back to it recently. We made a group pact not to build counterspell decks or Memnarch/control decks after a few intense fights between Mike and I, which made everything less fun. But back to point, fuckin' spirit decks make everything awesome forever. Same with those awesome Deckbuilding kits. It's like 5 prebuilt decks in a box, one of each color. They might not be optimized but damnit are they fun to just play right out of box. |
