Look down. Back up. WHere are you? You're on a boat with the man your man could smell like. What's in your hand? Back at me. I have it - it's an oyster with two tickets to that thing you love. Look again - the tickets are now diamonds. Anything is possible when your man smells like Old Spice and not a lady.

I'm on a horse.

I know this has been around for a while - he's even talked about people with my name - but you know you've got a proper meme when Grover parodies you.

For a while he was just answering random questions from the internet, like Reddit or Facebook. It was glorious.

Someone on Reddit even asked him to say something they could make into a voicemail message, and he did.

There's not really much to talk about here, though. Might have been better in the random link thread. Suppose we could talk about this stuff in relation to advertising and PR in general, I guess.

Edit: Mustafa says Hi to Reddit.

Apparently the ad campaign worked.

Krylo 10-09-2010 01:08 AM

Yeah, I'm not sure why this wasn't in random internet stuff.

Though I will say I spent hours the other night watching all his video replies. Isaiah Mustafa is the best person.

Seil 10-09-2010 01:13 AM

I guess we can talk about the usage of persons in commercials who've since become iconic for their work, like the most interesting man in the world.

Megatron does it
Old Spice Guy is Luke Cage

ker-lock

Folks, this is why there is a thread for links to things. There's nothing more to say than, "yes, I quite liked that" or to post another link. Let's put these in the right place, hmm?

TBH Isaiah Mustafa was a pretty decent thread topic idea

It was a pretty good idea for a thread, he's done attention-catching commercials and shown to have a unique comic persona, there are at least as many things to say about him as there are about, say, any given news forum topic. With the bonus that for the most part they'd probably be positive things. He's trying to be Luke Cage in a movie, I think? There's a whole sub-topical tangent right there. Every thread that has funny links in it doesn't necessarily need to be pushed into the funny-links thread.

Also in general it's really better to go like "this looks like it's just a bunch of links but lets see if anyone has any particular thing to say about it, if not then I will close it" instead of just jumping right to the closing.

Archbio 10-09-2010 04:29 AM

Word.

Worst case scenario: the thread remains there with no additional posts because there was nothing more to add to the OP.

Which is the exact same result you get when it's threadlocked: a stunted thread sitting there, cluttering the forums. I don't see the gain at all in this sort of threadlocking.

Krylo 10-09-2010 04:45 AM

ACTING AS PR DUDE OR SOMETHING I GUESS

EDITED OUT STUFF HERE BECAUSE I AM DUMB

ALSO: Seil's thread was closed because it was spam, not because Synk wanted to stop Isaiah Mustafa chatter or thread block or anything. There just really wasn't anything to discuss there as it was, making it basically a spam thread.

If Seil had worded the OP as, "Hey, Isaiah Mustafa is a cool actor, let's discuss him," instead of, "Here is a link of a funny commercial," his thread would still be open. However, he didn't, and thus a moderator made the call that it should be closed as that kind of thing is supposed to be in the interesting internet stuff thread.

However, if anyone wants to discuss Isaiah Mustafa, go ahead and do that here, he is pretty great and is totally deserving of a thread to talk about his career and how the Old Spice commercials kind of really helped him get off the ground.

Alternatively, if anyone wants to discuss moderating decisions vis a vis closing spam threads/what qualifies as a spam thread/whatever else, please post in Forum Related Stuff or toss some PMs to me/Meister/Shiney/POS/Whomever else you want to bug with that kind of thing. Or bug us on IM shit or whatever. It's all cool.

EDIT: ALSO I totally didn't notice this thread was IN forum related stuff. Because I browse by new post and shit.

ANYWAY, point being, we could probably like, split this into two threads.

Maybe start a new one for Isaiah, or whatever.

EDIT AGAIN: Basically all of that is still valid shit though.

POS: :argh:

ON TOPIC:

Dude was in NCIS and I didn't even realize it until I looked up his name to make sure I was spelling it right. Prison guard, I believe, in the episode where McGee was taken hostage, but I can't go rewatch it right now to make sure. No time.

Other things of his awesomeness I can't find right now due to time: He did an Old Spice Guy reply to his own daughter.

Seriously, dude is just basically fantastic in all ways.

POS Industries 10-09-2010 04:50 AM

Actually Krylo, you are woefully off-topic because this is a thread about discussing the closing of the Isaiah Mustafa thread, not about discussing how much of a fuckawesome dude Isaiah Mustafa is.

I should ban you right now for this oversight.
