New school doesn't know old school
Sosa's little story reminded me of a story of my own. When I was in middle school our gym teacher would always say we just sit around and play Atari. Me and everyone just looked at each other and said, "whats atari? that a new system"
of course I am now a member of the gaming elite and its kinda funny how ignorant we are of the old stuff. Oh and I was born in 86. Feel free to post your stories as well |
What's "Adventure!" ? I was born in 1985, I knew OF Atari, and the NES was my first system. Yet I never heard of that game.

Neither have I.
You can't expect "new schoolers" to know "old school" from before they had cognitive abilities. Frankly, I know of Atari, Intellivision, and pretty much everything afterwards, and quite a few games of the NES era forward, but I have no memory of Atari-era games (aside from like, Asteroid and stuff). However I have seen the now incredibly funny Intellivision commercials. (subject to being paraphrased) "Our game uses special graphic techniques to make it seem 3D. Atari doesn't." "Also, our game feature the most amazing visual effect thus far. A planet exploding." [shows a ball that's something like 32 by 32 pixels in size explode] Though I would presume that Dallas is a TV Show if I was put in a similar position. I could name something like 20 or more game from any system during and after NES era. Aside from for the Sega systems. Sad deaths though. NES has like...FF1, FF2, FF3, Mario Bros, Kid Icarus, Bionic Commando, Metroid, and so forth. While my memory of Atari is horrible. Here is about my entire memory. Atari has Asteroids and...uh...Space Invaders. That's it. I'm sorry Sosa. Just like I was sorry for you during the "Brian vs. Sosa" battle in the Battle Royale thread. *snort* Doesn't mean I didn't laugh to pieces. Expecting us "new schoolers" to "remember" Atari is like expecting a man to "remember" what he never learned. Which he cannot do. ßøßå*ˆß*å*ˆ?ˆø†*?´¥ø˜?*?¨µå˜*çøµ?®´?´˜ßˆø˜? ®´å¬¬¥? ˜ø*?¨?! It's like expecting you to be able to read that. Even though it's perfectly fine english. |
I say bring back the atari! Pitfall Harry will rule you all!
And MFD, remember.. Evil Otto! |
That's Berserk. Yeah, I doublechecked. Sure, I've probably played Atari disguised at an arcade, but the NES is where my memories lie.

You damn whippersnappers. you've got no respect for your elders, no knowledge of your roots. how can you know where you are if you don't know where you've been? with you're fancy techno raves and your hipity-hop music and your Sony Playmachines.

Heck...Game Machines? I was born in 1975. I was there when they first started coming out...I remember the time before GRAPHICS!! I remember when the most predominant games out there were Text Adventures...Zork, HitchHickers guide to the Galaxy, Planet Fall, Maniac Mansion. When we didn't get fancy maps and had to draw them ourselves.
And then the Atari, so simple, so good. Donkey Kong, Space Invaders, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Solaris (a game I never completed and I so regret it)...I have to go back and complete Solaris.... Oh any one remember Burger Time? There was another orinally themed game. Then computers got graphics, and we played such things as Ultima and Wolfenstein (that was the game before DOOM) Of course, I was one of the few who, back in the day, actually became a fan of the first Final Fantasy....of which, of course 8-bit, reminds me of. |
Weren't computers just people who added back in your day, SH? With fancy abacuses and all? :D

I remember "Adventure!", in fact I still have it, My Atari, and all of my old games in my house! Yes they are fully functional!
Adventure was a game in which you were a little Yellow Square. the point of said game was to go out of your cozy little yellow castle, take your sword (which looks like an arrow and simply sticks to the square) and navigate through a maze in order to find the enemy castle. these castles, and the keys you need to unlock them are usually guarded by some sort of Dragon... that looks more like a duck with a big hole in the center. you had to get the Chalace from inside the enemy castle and take it into your own without getting your shit stolen by a bat, or being eaten by said Duck-Dragons. if you do get eaten, you can see yourself in it's stomach but you can't escape. |
Adventure sounds a lot like D&D for the Atari... which is one of the only games I have for it. I can't hook my atari up, though, because I'm too cheap to buy an adapter for these new-fangled TV sets...
