My Little Pony: Actually Entertaining What The Hell

The pilot proved an overnight sensation on the internet, leading to piles of fanart, countless threads worth of speculation and discussion, and lots of males having existential crises about enjoying a "girl's cartoon" so much.

You know how people describe certain things as so manly, it will get a girl pregnant just by looking? This is the inverse of that.

And it's good.

I was too young when the original MLP was on, so let me say that in no way is it nostalgia that is influencing my opinion. It's ridiculous, and a tad kiddy and cliched, but it's all done really well with characters that fit into the common roles without being dull or annoying, and a genuinely developed fantasy setting.

Go. Watch the pilot episode. Let your mind be blown.

Even being an admitted fan of Rainbow Bright (alongside Fifthfiend - yeah I wasn't going down alone buddy. Sorry) I don't know if I can bring myself to give a damn. But I'm totally happy for anyone who took a gamble on this one and found it worthwhile!

Eh, its watchable, but just not anything I'm into. Of course, I can say the same of Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo & The PowerPuff Girls. (And even more than a few episodes of Star Wars: Clone Wars.)

Also, this thread could use linkage, so here's some YouTube linkage to the premier episodes. Not sure how many come after that, but its got to be 4-5. I'll leave you to find any YouTubes of those on your own.

Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4

My sister was into My Little Pony, and Rainbow Bright, and Strawberry Shortcake, and the Carebears. Not me so much, but I made her watch Transformers, G. I. Joe, He Man, Teenange Mutant Ninja Turtles, so I watched some of her stuff to make her happy.

It's got a long way to go to live up to the original but it's off to a promising start I think!

DIE!

On the other Hand, i'm somewhat glad to see that the Young ones can get a decent cartoon nowadays too. I mean, just cause it's a kiddy show it doesn't mean it has to have low production value... Sure, as much as any Kiddy show, it's made to sell toys... but if it's made well, then it's only fair.

Oh my god this cartoon is so cute I will buy all their toys

I checked into the toys, while looking for a present for an 8-year old girl. Anyway, Pony-tech hasn't improved much since the '80s. Depending on the size class, either you get a small figurine with no articulation, or the bigger ones have a head that can turn.

Just didn't seem like a lot of play value, so I didn't bother getting anything from the line.

Also, if anyone's interested, there's ton of animated GIF to be found in this thread (suggest you start at the last post, and work your way backwards).

PS - My comment on Dexter's Lab isn't about the quality, its about the fact that it just can't hold my attention. Just like this Pony show, I can understand why people like it, its just isn't anything I'm really into.

I took the My Little Pony personality test I am just like Pinkie Pie!

Just watched the first episode with my sister. We both enjoyed it. Hate watching it in Youtube resolution, but them's the breaks when you don't get the channel it airs on.

If the Hub site works for you, all the episodes are up there, save for the newest one.

Am I the only one who thinks Rainbow Dash is a shoutout to the LGBT community?

PCD 12-24-2010 04:32 AM

Trust me, at least half the people I know who watch this show have pointed exactly that out. Applejack has been pointed out on occasion, too.

Science fact: Dragonshy is the best My Little Pony episode.

The. Best.

This thread is actually about Medabots. It got so much better when I understood the jokes. Same with Samurai Pizza Cats.

I watched five seconds of this today, it had a gay dragon (maybe he was just a metrosexual dragon?)

Anything's possible. Including this. This is a thing that's possible, that could have happened. I love this show. I love this show so much.

I want to live in Ponyville
