Prototype 2: Murder everyone AGAIN

Trailer

I LOVED the original Prototype, but this trailer looks iffy. Graphics look the same (ie: unimpressive), gameplay looks the same but for a few improvements (though I'm sure there would be lots of new powers and stuff, but that's hardly innovation), character seems either like a douche or exactly the same as Alex Mercer...

The website previously known as Murder Your Maker has now metamorphosed into Prototype 2, indicating that that game will be out in 2012 - but not mentioning anything about formats (although it's almost certainly Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3).

The footage from the trailer looks very similar to the first game, which makes it even more surprising that there's going to be a sequel at all. The original received largely mediocre reviews and sales and was generally deemed inferior to Radical Entertainment's previous game The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction - to which Prototype was something of a spiritual sequel.

The idea of playing as a new character certainly seems a positive change though, as you fight against, rather than as, hoodie-wearing sociopath Alex Mercer. The new game is still set in New York City and will cast you as Sergeant James Allen, who has decided that, 'to kill a monster, you must become a monster'.

This just makes me mad. I liked Alex Mercer. He is probably one of my favorite video game characters simply because he is unapologetically an utter sociopath, even before his transformation.

What do you guys think? I'm on the fence. I really don't want to kill Alex Mercer, but beyond that, I played the shit out of the original, so I don't know that I really want more of the same. Its even in the same place...

I was hoping for a sequel playing AS Mercer and finishing off the military industrial complex that created him and the mother...thing, and the child and all the other shit you could learn about by eating people.

Playing as a member of the complex and killing Mercer doesn't fix anything, and is stupid.

HA! I KNEW IT! My friend owes me 20 bucks! er
Yay honestly I can't wait for it. I kinda knew that if Infamous was going to do a sequel then Prototype would get one as well as they almost matched in sales.
I am a little sad they are not going to focus on mercer but then again It could still be him...maybe.

I have to say I expected to not be Mercer, since he's more or less a physical manifestation of a god of death and destruction by this point, but playing as a military man?
What the fuck.

too early guys... i mean, this could go many ways. As in, trying to explore Alex's Human side for a bit, or creating empathy between the new protagonist and him. Maybe in the end this new guy could see that Alex is not the monster, the group that created him is the real monster.

It could swing in a few ways yet.

Bells, I'm going to guess based on that post that you did not play, or at least did not beat, Prototype. :I

Prototype was awfully written, as was Mercer, but the gameplay was basically playing Spiderman 2 as Carnage so FUCK YEAH MORE PROTOTYPE.
